We are looking for a Business Manager to be part of the Chief of Staff office to the COO.  Rather than owning a single function, the Business Manager works horizontally across teams, priorities, and initiatives, creating and driving efficient processes, cadence and governance to accelerate decision-making and keep the organization running smoothly. 

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the ideal candidate is a collaborative, low-ego team player who thrives on enabling others’ success, is willing to roll up their sleeves to get work done and is comfortable operating behind the scenes in a small, but high-performing Office. This role requires sound judgment, discretion, resilience, and the ability to integrate seamlessly into a small, fast-moving team with broad reach and meaningful impact.

Responsibilities

Operational Excellence

  • Manage the rhythm of business (ROB), including business reviews, people and financials and overall view of the COO office & organization
  • Create agendas and content for key rhythms (leadership teams, communities, etc) and ensure follow through and accountability
  • Capitalize on opportunities to improve internal processes, cadence and governance, leveraging AI as the priority.
  • Ensure compliance, privacy, and accountability in core business activities
  • Manage org-wide v-teams and efforts related to people & culture

Financial & Resource Management

  • Partner with Finance on annual budgeting, monthly business reviews, forecasting, approvals, and financial planning
  • Track performance against budget and drive course corrections to stay on plan
  • Lead headcount and resource planning, ensuring alignment with business priorities and spend discipline

Special Projects

  • Lead special projects and cross-team initiatives, driving program management rigor and execution to meet changing business environment and complex needs
  • Proactively engage with and work across the organization to incubate ideas and incoming requests

Organizational Health

  • Drive organizational health, culture, and inclusion, partnering with HR on people strategy
  • Act on employee signals and drive programs to build capability, engagement, and team effectiveness
  • Ensure completion of compliance and training requirements

Qualifications

Required Qualification:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 6+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles
    •  OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualification:
  • Master's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 8+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles
    •  OR Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 12+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles
    •  OR equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated success owning the ROB and executive support model for a senior leader in a large, matrixed organization, with a track record of executing with excellence and efficiency in ambiguous, fast-changing environments.
  • Strength in executive content and communications (presentations, narratives, leadership updates), budget planning and management, and standing up operating rhythms and tools that drive empowerment, agility, and operational ROI.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft’s commercial business, customer landscape, and partner ecosystem. 
  • Comfortable operating autonomously and in ambiguity; able to move quickly and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Business Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
