We believe coaching is among the most effective tools to unlock transformational growth and continuous improvement. And, we believe the future of coaching is human+ai.

We are a remote-first company based in the US backed by leading VCs and angel investors. Our team is highly ambitious, motivated, embraces having a growth mindset, and believes we have the potential to make a real impact. We also like to have fun :)

About The Role

We are hiring a BDR to help scale our Sales function with a focus on lead generation. You will be joining at an exciting inflection point in the company as we scale our product market fit, and launch new products. We are a very autonomous, high-trust environment with real upside and room for growth.

A Day in the Life

While each day will look different, below will give you a good idea of the tasks you’ll be tackling on any given day. We are not a company that does volume-first / spray & pray outbound. We like to define the target companies we want to sell into, and thoughtfully use our network to find introductions into those target accounts.

  • 8:30am - 9:30am: Review any new inbound leads coming from things like webinar or roundtable registrations, content downloads, and demo requests. Reach out to leads that fit within our ICP to schedule intro calls.
  • 9:30am - 11am: Reach out (email and LinkedIn) to HR and talent development leaders in a given market to drive attendance to an upcoming dinner we are hosting.
  • 11am - 12pm: Research prospects that fit within our ICP to do outbound to in the afternoon.
  • 1pm - 3pm: Outbound (email, calling, LinkedIn) to decision makers at ICP target accounts.
  • 3pm - 5pm: Conduct discovery calls and/or demos with prospects to qualify leads.
  • 4pm - 6pm: Use tools like LinkedIn, leverage our Mento community, and get creative to find connections within our ICP target accounts. Ask for introductions to those connections.
Key Responsibilities
  • Book and qualify intro calls with potential customers.
  • Support our events and conference strategy with outbound.
  • Prospect and nurture inbound leads.
  • Leverage our community to generate introductions and pipeline.
  • Identify and prospect into companies within our ICP.
  • And more! We are a small team and you will be required to wear many other hats!
Requirements & Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of SDR or BDR experience, preferably in a startup environment
  • Experience with modern sales tech stack (CRM, sales engagement platforms)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to articulate value propositions clearly
  • Competitive spirit and drive to exceed targets
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong work ethic while maintaining healthy work-life balance
  • You are passionate about the value of career coaching and mentorship. You believe in Mento’s product and mission.

We are proud to foster a workplace free from discrimination. We strongly believe that diversity of experience, perspectives, and background will lead to a better environment for our employees and a better product for our users. We truly don’t care about your credentials! If you’re passionate about helping more people access sustainable, better paid careers, we want to hear from you.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
