Broadcast IT Operations Manager
The Broadcast IT Ops Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and planning of our broadcast and cloud-based news and content creation systems. This hybrid role bridges the traditional broadcast engineering with modern IP-based workflows, ensuring seamless delivery of live and recorded content across multiple platforms. The Manager will lead a team, manage projects, maintain redundancy systems, and assist in ensuring industry standards and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deep knowledge of cloud-based newsroom and content systems, studio and control room operation, facility and production workflow.
- Manage and maintain all broadcast IT systems – including but not limited to playout, asset management, video servers, routers, storage systems and IP-based infrastructure.
- Lead and mentor a team of IT and broadcast engineers ensuring coverage for 24/7 operations.
- Ensure redundancy and business continuity plans are in place and functioning.
- Collaborate with News, Production, and other departments to support and ensure our live and post-production workflows are delivered.
- Plan and assist with software and system upgrades, technology migration, and facility improvements as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and prior management or supervisory experience.
- 5+ years of broadcast, IT and/or production experience.
- Ability to work varied hours as required to accommodate live news broadcasts, special events, remotes and rotating shifts to cover daily news shows.
- Cisco CCNA, SBE and/or SMPTE certifications are a plus.
- A solid grasp of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, UDP, Spanning Tree, and network performance optimization, is necessary.
- Knowledge of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and content delivery networks is increasingly important
Strong knowledge of both broadcast and IT systems, including IP video, video encoding/decoding, streaming protocols (HLS, DASH, RTMP), and related technologies - Familiarity with automation systems and cloud-based playout systems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and solve complex technical issues.
Work Environment:
This person oversees Engineering Operational and IT staff. Additionally, they interface with everyone from the occasional viewer, manufacturer and system integrator, Corporate IT, Master Control HUB, and Corporate Digital Team. They work with our Engineering Coordinator on crew schedules and provide support for remote productions like the Rose Parade, Red Carpet Shows, and Telethons.
On-site (various) and on-call support, including nights, weekends, or holidays as needed for critical incidents.
Compensation: $130,000+ - commensurate with experience and skill level
