About the Role
Acme is seeking a detail-oriented Billing Specialist to join our Revenue Cycle/Finance team. In this role, you'll be responsible for accurate and timely billing operations, ensuring claims are processed correctly, and serving as a key point of contact for resolving billing discrepancies. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, process-driven environment and takes pride in accuracy and follow-through.
What You'll Do
- Prepare, review, and submit accurate invoices/claims to clients, insurance payers, or third-party administrators
- Verify billing data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies and applicable regulations
- Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, denied claims, and payment variances in a timely manner
- Process adjustments, refunds, and write-offs according to established guidelines
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up on outstanding balances
- Collaborate with internal teams (Customer Service, Collections, Coding, Finance) to resolve billing issues
- Maintain accurate records of billing activity, correspondence, and account notes in billing systems
- Respond to inquiries from customers, clients, or payers regarding billing statements and account status
- Support month-end close processes, including reconciliations and reporting
- Identify recurring billing errors or process gaps and recommend improvements
- Stay current on relevant billing regulations, payer requirements, or coding/compliance updates as applicable to the industry
What You'll Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred
- 1–3 years of experience in billing, medical billing, accounts receivable, or a related field
- Familiarity with billing/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Epic, or similar) and Microsoft Excel
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in high-volume data environments
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a customer-service orientation
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Understanding of billing compliance standards (HIPAA, insurance claim requirements, etc.) is a plus for healthcare-adjacent roles
