Job Summary
The AVP, ALM Model Architect will lead the design, development, and implementation of a base ALM Model, serving as the strategic architect for the company’s next‑generation ALM platform. This individual will be responsible for modernizing model architecture, evaluating ALM projection platform and build to improve efficiency, and building enterprise‑level analytics across GAAP, Statutory, and Economic financial views.
This position reports to the VP, ALM and partners closely with the Chief Liability Officer, VP Modeling, and Appointed Actuary.The AVP provides direct leadership to the ALM Model Build Team and coordinates internal SMEs and external consultants to ensure successful delivery of a unified, high‑performance ALM model platform.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as the architect and overall technical lead for the ALM Model build, designing a unified ALM model framework that supports GAAP, Stat, and Economic financial reporting.
- Translate strategic objectives into a clearly defined multi‑year build roadmap and deliverable plan.
- Lead collaboration with VP‑level leaders across ALM, Modeling, Finance, and Risk to ensure the model supports forecasting, risk, and capital management needs.
- Oversee ALM tool evaluations and design the future‑state runtime architecture.
- Direct design and development of the ALM Model architecture, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and integration with existing data sources.
- Implement clear governance for assumptions, inputs, and methodology across all key use cases (stress testing, duration, MYP, and economic capital).
- Establish streamlined user acceptance testing and change‑management procedures in line with Model Risk Management (MRM) standards.
- Manage internal and external resources to execute program deliverables, ensuring balanced timelines and workload.
- Lead documentation and build transparency for ALM Model design, assumptions, and testing approach.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and internal training to build sustainable capability beyond the build phase.
- Deliver regular status, milestone, and risk updates to senior leadership providing analysis and recommendations at key decision points.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities for modeling processes, data flows, and system integrations to drive efficiency and resilience.
- Promote collaboration and accountability across cross‑functional teams and mentor team members on technical and professional development.
Experience and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or related discipline required.
- Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) preferred; minimum ASA designation required; MAAA preferred.
- 10+ years of Actuarial / ALM experience, including at least 5 years leading projection or forecasting model development.
- Proven experience overseeing large‑scale model modernization or migrations (AXIS experience strongly preferred).
- Solid understanding of investment modeling concepts, ALM analytics, liability‑projection mechanics, and financial reporting frameworks (GAAP & Statutory).
- Experience managing and collaborating with consultants and cross‑functional teams.

- Focuses on results, balancing disciplined governance with agility and driving large initiatives to completion within defined milestones.
- Communicates complex concepts clearly to both technical and executive audiences, tailoring information to support strategic decision‑making.
- Develops and motivates a high‑performing team, emphasizing coaching, continuous learning, and accountability.
- Acts with integrity, transparency, and a deep commitment to accuracy and timely delivery.
- Pursues continuous improvement and champions innovation, adopting new tools and methods to advance modeling efficiency and organizational effectiveness.
