The Associate role at Portage Point Partners represents a unique opportunity for highly motivated professionals to assume a wide set of responsibilities and make a significant impact in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. XFn Associates focus on all aspects of strategy, financial and operational engagements and work across IB, PI, OCFO and TRS practice lines. XFn Associates should be prepared to work within a small, collaborative team environment to execute discrete workstreams for Portage Point’s middle market clientele.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior team members and clients to address complex financial and operational challenges, including due diligence (financial and operational), value creation, value preservation, business transformation, bankruptcy preparation and investment banking processes (mergers and acquisitions (M&A), restructuring and capital raising)
  • Analyze detailed financial statement information including income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, debt schedules and key operational data Develop sophisticated financial and operational models such as three statement operating models, 13-week cash flows (TWCF), discounted cash flow, leveraged buyout analyses, accretion / dilution models and value creation models
  • Support a host of additional workstreams including but not limited to debtor-in-possession (DIP) sizing, first day motions, petition exhibits, vendor analysis, schedules of assets and liabilities (SOALs), statement of financial affairs (SOFAs), monthly operating reports (MORs), key performance indicator (KPI) creation and tracking,  key employee incentive and retention plan development, liquidation analysis, headcount reduction analysis, general ledger review, footprint rationalization, sales and operations planning, organizational design, go-to-market / growth design and business process transformation
  • Develop critical presentations and executive reporting packages, including teasers, confidential information memorandums (CIMs), KPIs, financial performance and budget updates, for the board of directors, management, investors and creditors, ensuring high-quality and impactful communication
  • Develop operational forecasts and budgets for active and potential investments and participate in operational, financial and management meetings to share analysis and findings
  • Share and manage best practices as well as lead internal trainings where required
  • Support business development, talent acquisition and firm development efforts as needed
  • Contribute to creating a high-performing and inclusive culture

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a top undergraduate program
  • Located or willing to relocate to Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles or New York   
  • Invested in a team-based culture that involves in office four days per week and willing to work at client sites as needed
  • A minimum of one and a half years of IB, consulting, private equity or other formal financial modeling training at a top-tier firm 
  • Financial acumen to prepare three statement models, TWCF, dynamic KPI packages and complex ad hoc analysis or the aptitude to become proficient
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, lean team environment
  • Capable of interacting with senior executives, private equity firms, lenders, lawyers, middle managers and line workers
  • Effectively communicates analysis through Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint including high-quality messaging, structure and formatting
  • Eagerness to be responsive at all times
  • Track-record of success in high pressure, time-constrained environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including strong email etiquette
  • Top-tier organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self-starter and entrepreneurial spirit
