Job Description

I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

The Associate Producer, Social contributes to audience development, programming and curation across every social platform to serve PEOPLE’s different audiences. Strong news judgment, writing/editing, video editing, creative thinking and understanding of social media strategies and industry trends are essential. We're seeking someone who is able to generate viral wins for the brand and harness PEOPLE's loyal audience while attracting new followers, whether via a viral video or news post. They report to the Associate Director of Social.

 

The Associate Social Producer helps run a variety of platforms and manages social media priorities Thursday-Monday, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. ET. They must be able to effectively work independently during part of their weekend shift. 

 

They sit in the newsroom and work closely with edit, video, PR, and other stakeholders to help distribute content and help serve our different audiences. They also assist with data pulls for audience and traffic insights.

 

They should be a team player with excellent communication skills and a passion for entertainment, pop culture and news. They will work closely with the Social Video team to efficiently accurately tell compelling stories across PEOPLE’s channels, regardless of the medium. 

 

Must be proficient in Adobe Premiere and Photoshop, with past experience programming TikTok and Instagram for a news brand. Experience at a national news brand is preferred.

II. Essential Job Functions

Approximate Weight % | Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results

40% - Run social accounts including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter; Communicate with editorial team and newsroom to help prioritize daily content; Provide guidance on trending items across social, SEO, and other sources

30% - Create social videos at the speed of news 

20% - Collaborate with editorial teams to execute social activations around awards shows, tentpole events, and breaking news; Help with data pulls and analyze key metrics; Deploy news alerts and newsletters; manage any issues or communications with our partners and 3rd party platforms.

10% - Attend events for live social coverage, Instagram Stories, and more; Organize social takeovers and partnerships, and other duties as may be assigned.
 

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience:

Minimum 2-3 years of related experience working in a fast-paced, creative environment or media brand .

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Availability to work 11am-7pm ET

  • Savvy with social media — an avid user and observer of industry trends

  • Strong news judgment 

  • Familiarity with the PEOPLE brand, particularly on social

  • Understanding of SEO basic principles

  • Experience with social analytics and reporting

  • Impeccable writing skills and attention to detail

  • Availability to work during special events, broadcasts, awards shows

  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere and Photoshop

% Travel Required (Approximate): not anticipated, but may be assigned

Pay Range

Salary: New York: $67,000.00 - $70,304.00 California: $70,304.00 - $70,304.00

The pay range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position and may change in the future. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of People Inc's total compensation package for employees.
