The Legal, Compliance, Regulatory and Government Affairs department is a diverse team comprised of attorneys and other professionals providing high quality advisory and transactional support with integrity and objectivity across all parts of the organization. The team ensures an operating environment that minimizes legal, regulatory and reputational risks and complies with all laws and regulations and Corebridge policies and procedures. We believe that our success depends on a world class team. If you would like to be part of this exciting organization, we invite you to consider putting your talents to work in our outstanding legal department.   In this challenging and dynamic role, you will have the opportunity to provide advice, counsel, and guidance with respect to the broad range of legal and regulatory issues within our Individual Retirement and domestic Life Insurance business.  We are seeking an attorney well versed in the legal and regulatory issues impacting life insurance and annuity products.  This position will report to a Deputy General Counsel.

Responsibilities

You will be working on various aspects of legal support for the Institutional Markets business of Corebridge Financial. Examples of the work in which you will be involved include:

  • You will provide trusted advice and counsel to the Institutional Markets businesses of Corebridge Financial working:
  • This includes drafting and review of various types of Reinsurance and reinsurance related agreements, advising on all disclosure and conflict of interest practices, supporting due diligence  This includes ceded and assumed reinsurance and (CRTs and bilateral cross boarder reinsurance.
  • This position provides a mix of support of our in-force book of business, as well as strategic and innovative initiatives designed to profitably grow our business.
  • You will work collaboratively with peers across Legal, Compliance and other control functions to ensure philosophical consistencies of approach and practice across diverse business lines, areas of legal practice and legal entities.
  • Maintain and grow in-depth knowledge of the business and its activities in order to ensure adequate legal oversight and resources as the business needs evolve over time; advise on emerging legal issues.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a lawyer in the life and annuity, reinsurance field, in house and/or private practice
  • Strategic thinking to plan, organize, manage to and execute to achieve organic growth and change.
  • Proven verbal and written communications skills aimed at delivering direct messaging and achieving collaborative and practical results.
  • Self-starter with a “can-do” attitude and the ability to meet and exceed deadlines, prioritize, multi-task, and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to work on matters requiring focus, attention to detail and execution.
  • Proven problem-solving skills that demonstrate creativity and commitment to core values.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance thoughtful decision making with careful and timely execution.
  • Experience in organizational environments using influence over authority to build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
  • Prior experience with a large multinational law firm and/or in-house legal department. 
  • A strong educational background including a B.A./B.S. and J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Admittance to at least one state bar with a preference for the following:  NY, TX or CA.

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position is $200,00 – $240,000 at the commencement of employment.  Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered will ultimately be dependent on multiple factors, which may include the candidate’s geographic location, skills, experience and other qualifications.

In addition, the position is eligible for a discretionary bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.

Work Location

This position is based in Corebridge Financial’s Houston, TX, Woodland Hills, CA or Jersey City, NJ office and is subject to our hybrid working policy, which gives colleagues the benefits of working both in an office and remotely.

Estimated Travel

Minimal travel.

This role is deemed a “covered associate” under SEC Rule 206(4)-5, 17 CFR § 275.206(4)-5, Political contributions by certain investment advisers, and other federal and state pay-to-play rules. Candidates for the role must not have made any political contributions that, under 17 CFR § 275.206(4)-5 or other federal or state pay-to-play regulations, would disqualify the candidate or Corebridge Financial from conducting Corebridge Financial’s business, or that would otherwise create a conflict of interest for Corebridge Financial. Applicants who are selected to move forward with the application process will be required to disclose all U.S. political contributions they and their household family members have made over the past two years.
