The Associate Editor, Contributors, will join a dynamic team of supervising editors who manage more than 2,200 expert contributors. The role will primarily focus on managing our contributors' coverage of the economy, money, investing and personal finance, ensuring consistently high-quality articles, newsletters, videos and more about the issues most important to Forbes and its readers. This editor will report to the Assistant Managing Editor, Contributors, and will collaborate with other newsroom departments, including video, social and newsletters. You will also partner with business colleagues in Audience Development and Product to help attract new readers and retain loyalty. This editor will also be responsible for recruiting and vetting new experts to join the contributor platform, and ensuring our writers' work is fact-based, clear, provides value to our brand and readers and adheres to Forbes style and Contributor guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Manage rosters of Money, Markets, Investing, Personal Finance, Retirement and Tax contributors, among others.
  • Provide editorial support for contributors to consistently produce high-quality content on the biggest stories driving business news and discussions
  • Generate story ideas with contributors and help them create ambitious analytical articles and stories with actionable advice that can attract a new audience
  • Analyze audience data for strategic decision-making on coverage and to guide contributors' publishing and content strategies
  • Recruit and develop new contributors with diverse backgrounds, expertise and experiences, and help vet potential contributors
  • Collaborate with newsroom colleagues on projects and impactful coverage that is authentic to the Forbes brand

The ideal candidate

  • Unimpeachable news judgment, cool diplomacy skills and demonstrated expertise in Forbes' key areas of coverage with a focus on personal finance, money, markets and investing
  • Expert line-editing skills with an ear for voice and the ability to provide editorial guidance to subject-matter experts
  • Three to five years professional journalism experience with significant experience in business and financial news
  • Experience managing freelancers or contributors on either an ongoing basis or project-by-project a plus
  • Experience training colleagues on new tools, best practices or adoption of new formats
  • Background in multi-platform journalism, from working on newsletters and video series and podcasts to collaborating with data analysts and social media to increase audience and engagement
  • Strong organizational and management skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Team player with a willingness to be flexible as the contributor network and newsroom evolves

The annual base salary range for this role is $70,000 - $80,000
