This position is primarily an individual contributor role with the bulk of time spent leading projects/programs starting with the very early phases of research and concept development, up to the full execution of the product development cycle. Projects/programs are typically highly complex with a broad multidisciplinary and/or technical scope.

  • Supervise the activities of project teams in a matrixed environment
  • Often the point-person between a team of PM’s supporting projects for a business unit
  • Occasionally provides strategic input and collaboration with the BU
  • Consistently demonstrates advanced maturity and emotional intelligence
  • Anticipates internal/external business and regulatory issues
  • Recommends product, process or service improvements and supports their execution
  • Identifies strategic opportunities for the platform or BU and effectively communicates them to executives
  • Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments.

Responsibilities:

  • Primary Project Manager on complex projects with a multidisciplinary and or technical scope, including platform projects
  • Manage project teams to deliver plans which include resource needs, scope, budget and success metrics. Ensures successful execution of program plans
  • Leads and/or strongly contributes to project definition
  • Leads and sets direction on the project planning activities including identification of keys task and formulation of timelines
  • Develops project plans, including detailed timelines with durations, dependencies, critical path, and milestones
  • Work effectively with stakeholders to ensure program goals are clearly defined and in alignment with business objectives
  • Set direction and provide framework through which improvement objectives can be delivered
  • Track, manage and communicate progress against objectives and plan changes to team and stakeholders
  • Define, schedule and lead reviews with governance committee
  • Facilitate and champion change across the organization
  • Positively influence all levels of management to ensure programs receive necessary support and are sufficiently resourced
  • Identify and resolve or escalate program issues, facilitate tradeoff decisions, and remove obstacles
  • Continuously analyze and manage program risks

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple complex programs from research to design and market deployment
  • Expert at project scheduling using MS Project, including dependencies and critical path determination and optimization
  • Command of product development lifecycles
  • Knowledge of genetic sequencing principles
  • Ability to operate at a system level as well as willingness to dig deep into specifics
  • Proficiency managing the interaction between software, hardware, chemistry on a sequencer.
  • Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills with a proven ability to effectively build relationships and achieve consensus across a wide range of functions and constituents
  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence at all levels of the organization
  • Sound grasp of the key business drivers and considerations in the biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device and /or life science industries
  • Demonstrated leadership including the ability to identify key issues and to motivate and empower others to address them in a way which builds morale and generates ownership and commitment
  • Proven ability to drive operational and cultural change
  • Self-starter with superior problem-solving, analytical and organizational skills and a track record for high performance and superior delivery
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative skills; detail-oriented with ability to see the big picture and to work effectively at both high and detailed levels

Experience/Education:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 15 years of product development experience in a regulated industry with at least 10 years managing projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree; or 15 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 10 years experience; or equivalent experience
  • Typically requires a current PMP certification
  • A strong technical background in engineering, advanced science or equivalent is a must have for this role

The estimated base salary range for the Associate Director Program Management - Sequencing Platforms role based in the United States of America is: $167,200 - $250,800. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
