Lead Square's content and organic growth strategy, executing high-impact content across channels to drive seller acquisition, engagement, and measurable business outcomes.
The summary above was generated by AI
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role
At Square, we believe content is no longer just a support function - it's a growth engine . As we enter our next phase of growth, we're looking for a Head of Content & Organic Growth to define and lead a breakthrough strategy that accelerates seller acquisition, strengthens engagement, and amplifies Square's brand through high-impact, high-velocity content.
This is a rare opportunity for a growth-minded leader who blends editorial instinct with performance rigor, knows how to build content that breaks through and scales across channels and audiences, and sees content as a driver of measurable business outcomes - not just output.
You'll own the full content stack: from strategy to creation, distribution to optimization - with a sharp focus on organic growth, AI-discoverability, audience segmentation, and conversion-oriented storytelling. You'll also partner closely with performance, lifecycle, SEO, product marketing, brand and creative to make Square the most trusted, culturally relevant and inspiring voice in local commerce.
You Will:
Strategy & Vision
  • Define a content and organic growth strategy aligned to Square's brand, business priorities / goals, and funnel conversion targets - across self-onboard and upmarket GTM.
  • Develop a modern framework for full-funnel content, with clarity on messaging, formats, distribution, and measurement at each stage, and a strong PoV on the key areas of focus to drive notable impact.
  • Establish differentiated editorial and visual voice guidelines for Square across owned, earned, and influencer-led channels.
  • Identify new growth loops and content surfaces (i.e. Reddit, YouTube Shorts, 3P review sites, AI-overviews, community-led SEO, etc.) and test relentlessly.

Content Creation & Innovation
  • Lead development of high-quality, high-performing content across video, web, blogs, podcasts, trade pubs, newsletters, guides, case studies, and more.
  • Champion short-form video as a key surface for brand visibility, conversion, and community building.
  • Drive creative experimentation across formats, headlines, channels, and CTAs, tied to performance KPIs.
  • Oversee content operations, managing internal resources and agencies for scale and speed.

Growth & Distribution
  • Build and own a cross-channel organic growth engine spanning search, social, community, and AI-enabled surfaces.
  • Partner with SEO, Social, Lifecycle, and Product to drive inbound demand and full-funnel engagement.
  • Collaborate with performance marketing to create lower-funnel content variations that convert.
  • Establish a flywheel of seller-generated and influencer content that fuels community trust and reach.

Measurement & Optimization
  • Define KPIs that tie content performance directly to business impact: e.g., lead volume, sign-ups, product adoption, engagement, ARPU growth, and LTV.
  • Partner with Analytics to build reporting infrastructure and surface insights that guide roadmap prioritization.
  • Build a test-and-learn culture around audience engagement, SEO/AI rankings, and full-funnel performance.

Leadership & Partnership
  • Manage and grow a high-performing, multi-disciplinary content team.
  • Work cross-functionally with PMM, Integrated Marketing, Brand, Product, Growth, Lifecycle, and Creative teams to bring unified campaigns to life.

You Have:
  • 12-15+ years in content marketing, editorial, or communications leadership.
  • Proven ability to scale content programs in both B2B and B2C contexts.
  • Track record of driving measurable business growth through content.
  • Strong storytelling and editing skills across formats.
  • Deep expertise in content strategy, workflows, analytics, and distribution.
  • Experience leading high-performing, multi-disciplinary content teams.
  • Familiarity with content management systems, analytics platforms, and AI-driven workflows.
  • Visionary strategist with a storyteller's heart and an operator's brain.
  • Growth-oriented leader who ties content directly to business impact.
  • Inspiring manager who builds strong, motivated teams.
  • Comfortable experimenting, iterating, and pivoting.
  • Empathetic and inclusive leadership style.
  • Strong ownership, accountability, and ability to influence at the executive level.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
