Associate Director, Instructional Impact

College Board - CRA

Location: This is a remote role. Candidates who live near CB offices have the option of being fully remote or hybrid (Tuesday and Wednesday in office). All CB employees are required to occasionally travel to meet in person for business purposes.

Role Type: This is a full-time position

About the Team

The SAT Suite Program Access team leads the national strategy, implementation, and partner engagement efforts supporting states and districts administering the SAT Suite of Assessments. As digital transformation accelerates, our work increasingly centers on scalable systems, strong district partnerships, and effective implementation models that ensure every student benefits from high-quality assessment insights. As part of the K-12 SAT Suite Program Management & Partner Success team, we enable customer success, reinforce the value of the SAT Suite, and strengthen College Board's partnership with critical customers.

Program Access is organized around three peer Director functions, Instructional Strategy & Resource Systems, Community Strategy & Implementation, and Program Success Enablement, each of which owns a distinct set of educator- and partner-facing resources. This role sits alongside all three, providing the shared technical and instructional design capacity that turns each function's flagship resources into interactive, scalable digital experiences.

About the Opportunity

The Associate Director, Instructional Impact designs and builds digital companions, interactive, technology-enabled complements to core instructional, community, and enablement resources, in direct support of all three Program Access Directors and determines how each flagship resource is translated into an interactive experience. This role reports to the Senior Director, SAT Suite Program Access and Instructional Impact, and  advises each Director on which resources warrant a companion and sets the design approach for each.

In the first months of this role, primary focus will be placed on partnering with the Director, SAT Suite Instructional Strategy & Resource Systems, building digital companions for flagship assets such as the Skills Insight Instructional Resource, the MVP Toolkit, and Teacher Implementation Guide updates, bringing these programs to scale quickly. From there, this role expands standardized digital companion support to the Community Strategy & Implementation and Program Success Enablement functions, ensuring all three directors benefit from a single, consistent, and reusable approach to digital companion development.

In this role, you will:

Build Digital Companions Supporting Our Instructional Strategy Team (≈40%)

  • Advise the director on which instructional assets to prioritize for companions and recommend the design approach for each.
  • Design and build digital companions for flagship instructional assets, including an interactive resource that helps students build test-taking skills, a starter toolkit for new districts, and updated guides that help teachers apply assessment results in the classroom
  • Decide how to restructure, condense, and sequence complex instructional content for interactive formats, weighing audience needs, accessibility, and build effort
  • Accelerate time-to-scale for priority instructional resources by pairing static materials with companion digital experiences

Extend Digital Companion Support Across Our District Engagement and Field Enablement Teams (≈30%)

  • Build digital companions in support of district engagement resources (for example, materials used to onboard and engage school districts in our community network, and kits used for in-person and virtual convenings)
  • Build digital companions in support of field enablement resources (for example, our field team's implementation and training deck used on the road, and content in our internal enablement resource hub)
  • Select the design approach for each companion based on its audience and use case (educators, districts, or field teams)

Establish a Standardized, Reusable Digital Companion Format (≈15%)

  • Own the companion standard, making and documenting decisions on format, tooling, accessibility approach, and component design, and determining when a request warrants an exception.
  • Set and maintain the documentation, templates, and component library that govern future builds
  • Reduce build time and increase consistency as companion coverage expands

 Drive Cross-Functional Prioritization & Alignment (≈15%)

  • Recommend which resources receive digital companions and in what sequence, based on expected engagement impact and build effort, and secure alignment from the senior director and directors before development begins
  • Use usage data and partner feedback to continuously refine and expand digital companion coverage
  • Report on digital companion adoption and engagement impact across all three functions

About You

  • Advanced degree (e.g., M.Ed., instructional design, educational technology) required
  • 3–5+ years of experience in instructional design, digital learning development, or educational technology content development
  • Required proficiency in authoring and publishing tools, including Articulate Storyline 360, Articulate Rise, Adobe Captivate, and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Experience developing interactive digital learning assets, including simulations, multimedia, and JavaScript extensions
  • Familiarity with LMS technologies and emerging standards such as xAPI and cmi5
  • Experience implementing ADA Section 508/WCAG accessibility requirements in digital learning materials
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent stakeholders and priorities
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work across a diverse set of colleagues, functions, and divisions
  • Commitment to educational equity and improving outcomes for students nationwide
  • The ability to travel occasionally to College Board offices or on behalf of College Board business
  • Bilingual (Spanish) candidates preferred
  • Experience building scalable "digital companion" or micro-learning models that complement larger static instructional or resource assets
  • Experience supporting multiple internal stakeholders or teams simultaneously with competing priorities and timelines
  • A track record of standing up reusable design systems, templates, or component libraries that reduced production time across a team

All roles at College Board require:

  • A passion for expanding educational and career opportunities and mission-driven work
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for emerging technologies, with a willingness to experiment with and adopt new AI-driven solutions and comfort with learning and applying new digital tools independently and proactively.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, written and verbal
  • A learner's mindset and a commitment to growth: welcoming diverse perspectives, giving and receiving timely, respectful feedback, and continuously improving through iterative learning and user input.
  • A drive for impact and excellence: solving complex problems, making data-informed decisions, prioritizing what matters most, and continuously improving through learning, user input, and external benchmarking.
  • A collaborative and empathetic approach: working across differences, fostering trust, and contributing to a culture of shared success
  • Authorization to work in the United States

About Our Process

  • Application review will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. This role is expected to accept applications for a minimum of 5 business days.
  • While the hiring process may vary, it generally includes: resume and application submission, recruiter phone/video screen, hiring manager interview, performance exercise such as live coding, a panel interview, a conversation with leadership and reference checks.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
