Are you passionate about giving back to your community and making a lasting difference in the lives of young people?
Who We Are:
In 1922, Woodcraft Rangers opened its doors in Los Angeles and began its mission of guiding young people as they explore pathways to purposeful lives. As a progressive organization, Woodcraft has always been responsive to the evolving needs of the communities served, and is notably inclusive, youth-led, and rooted in the Woodcraft Way, a holistic framework that develops body, mind, spirit, and service. Continuously at the forefront of expanded learning opportunities, Woodcraft Rangers has a rich history of making a significant impact in the greater Los Angeles area, believing that all youth are innately good, deserve the opportunity to realize their full potential, and should be an active participant in defining their own path.
What We Do:
Woodcraft Rangers provides TK-12 expanded learning programs, including before and after school, specialty enrichment, and summer learning. In the past few years, Woodcraft has expanded its menu of services beyond traditional afterschool programs and summer camps to include early learning, environmental and social justice, college access, and inclusion services for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Additionally, we offer LifeCraft, a college and career advancement program to support the development of approximately 2,250 staff. Today, Woodcraft Rangers serves more than 30,000 youth ages 4 to 18 each year across 150 plus Title I schools in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties, and continues to expand its reach.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a seasoned data operations leader who thrives at the intersection of systems, people, and program impact. They are equally comfortable defining a reporting framework, coaching a regional team through a complex data submission, and translating funder requirements into clear workflows for site staff. They believe deeply that good data is in service of better outcomes for young people, and they bring both technical fluency in expanded learning data systems and the judgment to know when to standardize, when to flex, and when to escalate. They are an experienced people leader who builds high-trust, accountable teams across geographies, and they bring a builder’s mindset to the work of unifying Core (LA + SGV) and IE operations into one shared data model.
Why Work for Woodcraft Rangers:
  • Competitive salary – see range above
  • Paid vacation & sick time – generous time off to recharge
  • Lifecraft program – free college & career advancement for all staff
  • Upward mobility – promote-from-within culture
  • Health, dental & vision – comprehensive benefits coverage
  • 403(b) retirement plan – invest in your future
  • Pet insurance – because your whole family matters
  • Mission-driven work – impact 30,000+ young people annually
Role Overview:
The Associate Director of Data Operations leads day-to-day strategy, standards, and execution for the Operations Data team across the Core (LA + SGV) and Inland Empire (IE) regions. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Associate Director owns the data operations strategy, reporting governance, and quality framework that underpin Woodcraft Rangers’ program delivery, funder reporting, and district partnerships. This role is the primary owner of data partnerships with school district contacts, the primary point of accountability for funder data submissions (ASES, 21st CCLC/ASSETs, ELOP, and foundation funders), and the leader who ensures Core and IE operate from one shared data model — not two separate regional systems. The Associate Director directly supervises the Core Data Manager, IE Data Manager, and Data Analyst, and partners closely with Program, Operations, Compliance, IT, and finance leadership to ensure data systems are consistent, scalable, and serve the organization’s mission.
Responsibilities:
Strategy & Governance
  • Own the data operations strategy, standards, and roadmap across the Core and IE regions, ensuring both regions operate from one shared data model.
  • Define and maintain reporting definitions, the reporting calendar, quality-control expectations, and escalation pathways for the full data team.
  • Establish and govern data quality standards (completeness, timeliness, accuracy) and lead recurring quality reviews with the Managers and Analyst.
  • Partner with the Director of Operations and COO on the long-range data roadmap, including system selection, regional expansion readiness, and capacity planning.
Funder & District Partnerships
  • Serve as the primary internal owner of data relationships with school district contacts across Core/IE district partners — including data sharing agreements, attendance system access, and reporting alignment.
  • Own the data side of funder reporting relationships for ASES, 21st CCLC/ASSETs, ELOP, and foundation funders, including translating requirements into team workflows and ensuring on-time, accurate submissions.
  • Coordinate with Compliance and Program leadership to ensure all funder and district reporting obligations are met without gaps or duplication.
  • Represent Woodcraft Rangers in technical conversations with district and funder data leads.
Team Leadership
  • Directly supervise the Core (LA + SGV) Data Manager, IE Data Manager, and Data Analyst; set performance expectations, conduct regular 1:1s, and develop team capability.
  • Coach Managers on team leadership, escalation judgment, and cross-regional consistency.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing development for data team roles.
  • Build a culture of high data quality, professional growth, and accountability across the team.
Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Partner closely with Program leadership as the primary internal customer for data, ensuring reporting definitions, dashboards, and quality follow-up support program decision-making.
  • Partner with Operations, Compliance, IT, and Finance leaders to align data systems and reporting with broader organizational needs.
  • Translate strategic direction from the Director of Operations and COO into clear, executable workflows for the data team.
  • Escalate to the Director of Operations on strategic decisions, cross-functional conflicts, scope changes, and capacity risks.
Systems & Operations
  • Oversee the consistent use and configuration of attendance, enrollment, and reporting systems including EZReports, Afterschool HQ, and district SIS platforms (Aeries, Synergy, Infinite Campus).
  • Lead system improvements, integrations, and migrations in partnership with IT.
  • Ensure all data handling complies with FERPA, district data sharing agreements, and applicable student data privacy laws.
Qualifications / Skills:
Required
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in data operations, data management, or program data roles, including at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience leading data operations across multiple regions, sites, or business units.
  • Strong working knowledge of expanded learning data systems (EZReports, Afterschool HQ, or comparable platforms) and district SIS platforms (Aeries, Synergy, Infinite Campus, or comparable).
  • Experience owning funder reporting for ASES, 21st CCLC/ASSETs, ELOP, foundation funders, or comparable government/grant-funded programs.
  • Working knowledge of FERPA and student data privacy requirements, including managing data under district data sharing agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate strategic direction into operational workflows and to coach managers through complex implementation work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting data and recommendations to executive and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft 365 (Power BI familiarity strongly preferred).
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Direct experience with Los Angeles-area school district partnerships
  • Experience in a youth-serving nonprofit or expanded learning organization.
  • Experience leading system migrations or implementations.
  • Power BI development experience.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
