Who You Are
You are an early-career database administration professional with a strong foundation in SQL Server and a desire to grow your technical skills across on-premises and Azure environments. You are detail-oriented, curious, and dependable, with an interest in database monitoring, backup and recovery, security, troubleshooting, and performance fundamentals. You work well with established procedures, communicate clearly, and know when to escalate issues while continuing to learn from senior team members.
What You'll Do
- Perform routine administration and health checks for SQL Server databases in on-premises and Azure environments under the guidance of senior DBAs
- Monitor database availability, capacity, performance, jobs, and alerts; investigate common issues and escalate complex incidents appropriately
- Support backup, restore, recovery validation, database refresh, and migration activities by following documented procedures
- Assist with user access, permissions, patching, maintenance, and security controls in accordance with company standards and change-management processes
- Use T-SQL and approved tools to gather diagnostic information, perform query and index analysis, and automate repeatable tasks
- Maintain accurate documentation, runbooks, inventory, and operational records; collaborate with senior DBAs, developers, infrastructure, and security teams
- Participate in scheduled maintenance and an on-call rotation as assigned, with appropriate team support
What You'll Need
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in database administration, systems administration, or a closely related technical role; equivalent education and practical training may be considered
- Foundational knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, relational database concepts
- Working knowledge of T-SQL, including writing queries and understanding stored procedures, execution plans, and indexes
- Understanding of database backups, restores, recovery models, security permissions, and routine maintenance
- Knowledge of PowerShell Scripting and automation
- Troubleshooting skills and the ability to analyze logs, alerts, and performance information
- Strong documentation, communication, organization, and collaboration skills
- Ability to follow operational procedures, change controls, and security requirements while handling sensitive financial data responsibly
- Travel requirement: All roles require travel during the first 6 months of employment to attend the BHG Oars in Experience. After the initial 6 months, ongoing travel is expected at approximately ~5% annually for periodic team on-sites, team meetings, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Work Authorization: This role is not eligible for employer-provided immigration sponsorship. To be considered, applicants must already possess valid U.S. work authorization that will not require sponsorship now or in the future.
- Exposure to Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, or other cloud database services
- Familiarity with SQL Server Agent, Availability Groups, Transparent Data Encryption, and database monitoring tools such as Redgate SQL Monitor or Fog light
- Experience using PowerShell, source control, or ticketing and change-management systems
- Awareness of financial services compliance and data-protection requirements, including SOX and PCI DSS
- Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate certification or progress toward a relevant Microsoft certification
