Job Description Summary:

This position sits within SDI Services, a SOLV Energy affiliate company, and is posted on SOLV Energy’s careers site to connect great talent with meaningful opportunities. While you will apply through SOLV Energy, all day‑to‑day work, responsibilities, and decision‑making for this role will reside within SDI.
The Estimator is responsible for developing preliminary structural and geotechnical designs for design-build deep foundation and shoring systems, then translating those designs into accurate, competitive construction cost estimates. The Engineer/Estimator evaluates project conditions and geotechnical data to select and size appropriate foundation and earth-retention systems, then builds the quantity takeoffs, pricing, and proposals used to win and execute the work.
The Assistant Preconstruction Project Manager is responsible for managing all assigned projects from notice of award through mobilization. This role is the primary point of coordination during preconstruction: hosting internal and external meetings, maintaining action item checklists, controlling client documentation, coordinating contracts and subcontracts, aligning scope with clients, and ensuring each project is fully set up and ready for a smooth handoff to the field team.
Assistant Preconstruction Project Managers who demonstrate strong ownership of the preconstruction process, sound judgment, and the ability to manage a growing volume of projects are developed for advancement to Preconstruction Project Manager.
This role is based full-time in our office in Sacramento, CA. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.

Job Description:

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

Preconstruction Project Management (Award to Mobilization)

  • Manage all assigned projects from notice of award through mobilization, ensuring a smooth and complete transition from preconstruction to the field team.
  • Serve as the primary preconstruction point of contact for each assigned project, coordinating across internal departments and external project teams.
  • Track outstanding preconstruction action items required prior to mobilization for each assigned project and drive them to closure.

Meeting Facilitation & Action Item Management

  • Schedule and host all internal and external preconstruction meetings for assigned projects, including kickoff meetings, client coordination calls, and internal handoff meetings.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, document meeting minutes, and distribute notes to all stakeholders.
  • Maintain and actively manage action item checklists for each project, following up with responsible parties to ensure timely completion.

Document Control & Client Coordination

  • Maintain document control for all documents received from the client, ensuring accurate, organized, and accessible project records.
  • Proactively follow up with clients to obtain outstanding documents required prior to mobilization.
  • Align project scope with the client, ensuring a shared understanding of scope, deliverables, and expectations prior to mobilization.

Contracts, Subcontracts & Work Orders

  • Coordinate the preparation, review, and execution of contracts, subcontracts, and work orders for assigned projects.
  • Track contract and subcontract status, ensuring documents are fully executed prior to mobilization.
  • Work with Estimating, Operations, and Legal to resolve open contract or scope questions prior to project handoff.

Project Setup & Tracking Systems

  • Oversee the creation of all project tracking spreadsheets, checklists, and systems used to manage construction progress.
  • Manage overall job setup across the company, ensuring new projects are properly established in all relevant systems, such as project cost management, scheduling, and document control.
  • Ensure consistent, standardized project setup practices are followed across all assigned projects.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Collaborate with Estimating, Operations, Project Managers, and Superintendents to ensure a complete and accurate handoff of project information at mobilization.
  • Support the Estimating and Preconstruction Manager with other preconstruction responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to host and lead meetings with both internal team members and external clients.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear meeting minutes and action item summaries.
  • Ability to build and maintain accurate, organized document control systems.
  • Working knowledge of construction contracts, subcontracts, and work orders.
  • Proactive follow-up skills with clients and internal stakeholders to keep projects moving forward.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of accountability and urgency.
  • Ability to build and maintain project tracking spreadsheets and systems.
  • Ability to work independently while managing a portfolio of projects in preconstruction.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in construction, preconstruction, project coordination, or a related project support role.
  • Experience in the solar, heavy civil, or specialty construction industry is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage documentation, schedules, and multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

Certificates / Licenses

Certifications such as OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety are preferred.

  • Required: Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • May Obtain as Required: CPR/First Aid, OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily an office-based role, with the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to active construction sites and between company and project locations as needed.
  • Ability to work extended hours during high-volume award periods and mobilization deadlines as project demands require.
