Assistant Manager, Shoot Production

Purpose

The Assistant Manager, Shoot Production leads pre-production and shoot days for on figure and video, which represent roughly 22% of the studio’s more than 39,000 annual assets, and coordinates contract creative teams and talent across all shoot types. In a high- volume calendar with multiple productions moving at once, this role independently runs style outs, castings and the logistics around them, books and confirms crew, issues call sheets and manages talent and freelance paperwork.

A working knowledge of creative team skills and talent insights, challenges and team preferences shapes how crews and talent are paired, so sets run smoothly and planned volume is delivered without sacrificing quality. On shoot days, the role is the single point of contact among photography, styling, talent and creative partners, tracks pace against the daily plan, and flags risks to volume or delivery early. The Assistant Manager reports to the Senior Manager, Studio Production.

Key responsibilities

Crew and talent

• Book and confirm contract creative teams and talent against the approved calendar. Issue call sheets.

• Coordinate casting and style outs. Own talent preferences and keep them current.

• Manage catering and shoot day logistics.

• Handle talent and contract paperwork, including agreements, releases and invoice tracking, and flag gaps to the Senior Manager.

Shoot execution

• Run the on figure and video set day to day. Track pacing against the daily plan and flag risk by midday.

• Resolve on set issues. Escalate resourcing conflicts and decisions that need the Senior Manager.

• Act as the single point of contact between photography, styling, crew and creative partners during shoots.

Data and handoffs

• Manage set specific Darkroom data.

• Confirm with the Studio and Sample Coordinator that samples, wardrobe, props and equipment are ready before each shoot day.

Improvement

• Identify recurring scheduling and throughput constraints, use production data to isolate the cause, and recommend changes that improve output.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
