Application Support Engineer (Lead Analyst Role)
StarCompliance is seeking a highly skilled, critical-thinking Application Support Engineer to join our growing CSS Environments Team. In this lead analyst role, you’ll provide technical expertise for Level 2 application support while driving operational excellence through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of our application and cloud environments.
You will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our web applications using your extensive knowledge of cloud environments and will be instrumental in driving operational excellence and delivering a best-in-class client experience. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding and previous experience of web application support using Microsoft technologies (IIS/MSSQL) and a proven track record of successfully operating within technical teams in a fast-paced environment.
Environments are an integral function within StarCompliance and work directly with Client Support Services, Professional Services, Product, Relationship Management and Sales. Technical knowledge is paramount for this position alongside deep critical thinking and an ability to methodically assess, direct or resolve issues which may not have been encountered previously. Successful candidates will need to be passionate about the StarCompliance brand identity and understand the solutions that the company provides.
Responsibilities
- Application & Environmental Support: Provide advanced support for StarCompliance web applications hosted on IIS, SQL Server, and Azure, serving as the escalation point for complex issues.
- Azure Cloud Operations: Manage and monitor Azure environments, ensuring reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.
- Deployment: Upgrade and deploy applications with Azure pipelines and orchestration.
- DevOps & Automation: Develop and maintain pipelines (Azure DevOps), automate repetitive tasks with PowerShell and implement best practices.
- Database Expertise: Troubleshoot, optimize, and tune SQL Server databases; analyze performance bottlenecks using SSMS, Profiler, and T-SQL queries.
- Identity & Access Management: Configure, support, and troubleshoot Auth0 authentication across StarCompliance applications. Implement, monitor, and optimize Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and OAuth/OpenID Connect integrations.
- Monitoring & Observability: Configure and manage Log Analytics and monitoring tools to proactively detect and resolve issues.
- Migration Projects: Support cloud migration and modernization efforts, including Azure transitions, hybrid integrations, and application re-platforming.
- Leadership & Mentoring: Act as a lead analyst, providing guidance, technical direction, and knowledge-sharing to peers and junior team members.
- Collaboration: Partner with Client Support Services, Infrastructure, Product, and Development teams to deliver seamless application support and continuous service improvement.
Required Skills, Knowledge/ Experience:
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Strong expertise with Microsoft Azure (administration, monitoring, networking).Hands-on experience with IIS configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting. Experience with PowerShell scripting for automation and system management
- Database Proficiency: Advanced SQL Server knowledge, including T-SQL, query tuning, performance optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Identity & Access Management: Experience troubleshooting Auth0 authentication and identity services. Working knowledge of SSO, MFA, OAuth authentication.
- DevOps Practices: Experience implementing and managing pipelines in Azure DevOps.
- Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Proven expertise with Application Insights, Log Analytics, and performance monitoring diagnostics.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical mindset with the ability to quickly assess, diagnose, and resolve unfamiliar technical issues.
- Communication & Leadership: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Previous experience in a lead of supervisory role with the ability to lead a team of analysts and collaborate across departments.
