CURRENT ROOT EMPLOYEES - Please apply using the career page in Workday. This career site is for external applicants only.

As part of Root's interview process, we kindly ask that all candidates be on camera for virtual interviews. This helps us create a more personal and engaging experience for both you and our interviewers. Being on camera is a standard requirement for our process and part of how we assess fit and communication style, so we do require it to move forward with any applicant's candidacy. If you have any concerns, feel free to let us know once you are contacted. We’re happy to talk it through.

The Opportunity

At Root, we’re on a mission to improve the lives of our customers by offering better insurance solutions. We challenge ourselves to think differently in order to reimagine insurance to make it smarter, more equitable, and a better experience for all.

We strive to “unbreak” the archaic insurance industry by using data and technology in innovative new ways. We believe we must be steadfast in our commitment to research, experimentation, and disciplined data-driven decision making in order to build products our customers love. Analytics sits at the center of our vision.

The Policyholder Experience team is responsible for optimizing every touchpoint of the customer journey including billing and payments, digital navigation, customer service, and claims. With a product-first mindset, we focus on enhancing satisfaction and driving retention through thoughtful, data-informed improvements.

As a Product Analyst II, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of the Policyholder Experience team by delivering actionable insights that inform product strategy and decision-making. You’ll be responsible for building and maintaining self-service reporting tools, conducting deep-dive analyses, supporting A/B test design and monitoring, and guiding key stakeholders across multiple product areas. We’re looking for someone who sees retention as more than just a metric, but a reflection of how we treat people and who’s excited to grow as a versatile generalist in a collaborative, impact-driven environment.

Root is a “work where it works best” company. This means we will support you working in whatever location that works best for you across the US.

Salary Range: $98,000 - $105,000 (Bonus & LTI Eligible)

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Own and evolve a suite of reporting dashboards and research assets to deliver timely, actionable insights that guide product and business decisions across Billing, Payments and Customer Experience.

  • Support A/B test design and monitoring to ensure experiment integrity, enable rapid iteration, and generate reliable insights that inform product and experience improvements.

  • Translate complex data into clear narratives and strategic recommendations to help drive decisions around payment optimization, user behavior, fraud detection, and partner readiness.

  • Build scalable data workflows and automated reporting processes to increase speed-to-insight and reduce operational friction for key stakeholders.

  • Develop a deep understanding of policyholder behavior across multiple channels (Web, Mobile, Agents), and surface insights that shape retention strategies and feature prioritization.

  • Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to identify knowledge gaps, influence roadmaps, and ensure data-informed decision-making across the product lifecycle.

  • Support the team’s shift from reactive reporting to a proactive, insight-led analytics function by monitoring key metrics, identifying emerging risks, and uncovering new opportunities.

What You Will Need to Succeed

  • 1+ years of experience in an analytics role, ideally supporting product, operations, or strategy teams (insurance experience is a plus).

  • Strong SQL skills and experience with BI tools such as Tableau, Mode, or Power BI.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or technical field (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Engineering, Computer Science).

  • Strong business acumen and an innate curiosity to dig into the “why” behind data trends.

  • Effective communication and storytelling skills. Able to frame technical findings in a clear, strategic way for both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation habits and a high ownership mindset. You take initiative and thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.

  • A collaborative approach with a desire to build long-term relationships with stakeholders and contribute to a high-performing, impact-driven team.

At Root, Inc., we are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
