About Crux

Financing the future of energy!

Energy demand is rising for the first time in decades, driving an urgent need for more infrastructure to deliver affordable, reliable and clean electricity. New clean energy infrastructure requires domestic supply chains for critical minerals and components, as well as large amounts of capital. Unfortunately, accessing the necessary financing at each stage of a project lifecycle presents challenges for developers and manufacturers.

Crux is the capital markets platform changing the way clean energy and manufacturing projects are financed in the U.S. We have raised $77 million from top investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Lowercarbon Capital, New System Ventures, Overture, Ardent Venture Partners, QED, and Canapi — alongside strategic investors who collectively generate billions of dollars of tax credits annually.

About the Role

The traditional process for financing clean energy is manual, opaque, and slow. We’ve built products that solve part of that problem — now we’re expanding their breadth and depth with AI.

We’re hiring our first AI Product Engineer to work hand-in-hand with customers, product, commercial, and legal teams to reimagine the way transactions happen in clean energy finance, starting with diligence. You won’t just be building features — you’ll be co-designing the processes and systems that define how we ship high-quality AI products at Crux. Much of this framework doesn’t exist yet — and you’ll help invent it.

What You’ll Do
  • Collaborate directly with customers and internal stakeholders to design, build, and ship production-grade AI features for clean energy finance.

  • Lead the build-out of Crux’s AI stack — from model selection to orchestration, evaluation, and iteration.

  • Define and refine how we bring AI products from prototype to production, establishing best practices along the way.

  • Build across the stack (TypeScript, React, SQL) with performance, scalability, and usability in mind.

  • Prototype, experiment, and test ideas rapidly — always anchored to real customer needs.

  • Contribute to our engineering culture through learning sessions, code reviews, and shared standards.

What We’re Looking For
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong full-stack foundation (TypeScript, React, SQL)

  • Proven experience building and shipping production-ready AI products

  • Skilled with modern prototyping tools and making UX decisions for MVPs

  • Comfortable working directly with customers in ambiguous, fast-changing environments

  • Founder-level energy and ownership — you make things happen, unblock yourself, and rally others

  • Naturally curious, quick to learn, & willing to try new technologies

  • Authorized to work in the US or Canada

Preference May Be Given To Candidates With
  • Extensive experience with evals & benchmarking

  • Experience building AI agents

  • Experience building engineering teams from 0 to 1

  • Familiarity with modern AI tooling & frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.)

Compensation & Benefits
  • Annual base salary ranges

    • Mid-Career: $140,000-$170,000 USD

    • Senior: $160,000-$200,000 USD

  • Equity options

  • Company-wide bonus tied to revenue goals

  • Full health benefits, 20 days PTO, 10 company holidays

  • Fully remote, with coworking opportunities in SF, Seattle, DC, or NYC

Our Values

We’re an experienced and highly collaborative team that prioritizes diversity, psychological safety, and inclusion. We encourage sharing ideas and perspectives — it’s how we do our best work. We believe all people are capable of great things, and we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every listed requirement.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
