Position Summary

Sports change lives, and great leaders make those experiences possible. As the Sports Coordinator, After School, ELOP Grant, you'll lead the planning, coordination, and day to day operations of after school sports programs serving elementary and middle school students across multiple school communities. You'll recruit, coach, and support instructors, coordinate leagues, practices, competitions, and special events, and work closely with school administrators and community partners to deliver exceptional youth sports experiences. Every season, you'll help thousands of young athletes build confidence, develop new skills, embrace healthy lifestyles, and experience the power of teamwork, leadership, and belonging. If you're passionate about youth sports, developing coaches, and creating programs that strengthen communities, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact. This is a grant-funded, school year based position with year-round training and opportunities to support additional YMCA youth programs during school intersessions and summer.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Lead and oversee high quality after school sports programs across multiple school sites while ensuring exceptional experiences for every participant.
  • Recruit, mentor, schedule, and support coaches and instructors, helping them grow as youth development professionals and positive role models.
  • Coordinate leagues, practices, competitions, tournaments, and special events while ensuring safe, organized, and engaging program operations.
  • Build strong partnerships with schools, families, officials, and community organizations to expand access to youth sports and strengthen community relationships.
  • Monitor program quality, safety, grant compliance, and operational performance while continuously improving the participant and coach experience.

Schedule

This is a part-time, school year based, grant-funded seasonal position averaging 20 hours per week. Sports Coordinators typically work Monday through Friday on school days, supporting after school sports programming across multiple school sites between the hours of 2:00pm and 4:00pm. Paid training and professional development are required throughout the year, including occasional non-school days. During school intersessions and summer, additional opportunities for work may be available through YMCA youth sports, summer day camp, and other youth development programs.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
