Supports administration of the reasonable accommodations program for employees eligible for protection under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and/or relevant federal and state regulations. Supports the daily activities of the Transitional Duty program for employees returning to work from non-work-related medical leave.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Three (3) years of experience in the administration and management of employee disability programs, including short-term disability (STD), long-term disability (LTD), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and workers’ compensation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:

2. Certified Professional in Disability Management.

3. Experience in a healthcare environment.

1. Support the interactive process for employees with medical conditions who request assistance in staying at work or returning to work from a leave. Collaborate with managers and employees, promoting interaction to identify, negotiate, and implement effective modifications to assist stay at work or return to work efforts, including follow ups to ensure their success.

2. Proactively initiate ADA review process for employees requesting leave of absence, who are ineligible for other leave policies, to determine eligibility for ADA protection.

3. Obtain and review medical information to determine eligibility for workplace modifications under state and federal regulations.  

5. Prepare and maintain detailed and accurate accommodation materials, including medical questionnaires, status updates, notifications throughout the accommodation process. 

6. Track implemented modifications with clear and consistent records throughout interactive process and accommodation decisions.

8. Educate employees, managers, and HR staff regarding ADA process and considerations in stay at work, return to work and workplace adjustments.

9. Stay informed on state insurance privacy laws, HIPAA, and other federal and state accommodation requirements.

13. Support the daily activities of the Transitional Duty program:-

  • Ensure compliance with the Transitional Duty policy and legal guidelines to assist employees in returning to work
  • Match the limitations/restrictions with suitable transitional duty assignments available within the organization
  • Periodically evaluate the transitional duty assignment to ensure that the needs of both the employee and the organization are being met

1. Manual dexterity used in operating standard office equipment.

2. Prolonged periods of sitting.

3. May be required to walk to various areas throughout the department or medical complex.  This may require the use of elevators and/or stairs.

9. Demonstrated experience and proficiency in disability management, leave management, workers compensation administration, clinical and/or vocational rehabilitation, disability case management, or human resources.

10. Awareness of legal issues pertaining to disability and absence management, particularly knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and state leave laws.

11. Ability to exercise sensitivity, compassion, and discretion with employees to encourage return to work or stay at work.

12. Ability to work cooperatively with vendors, managers, employees, and clinical specialists to conceptualize, create, implement and evaluate RTW plans for employees.
