Compliance Consultant – Actuarial Services

July Business Services (JULY) is seeking an individual to join our growing Actuarial Services Team as a Compliance Consultant. In this role, you will enjoy the unique challenge of putting your existing retirement plan knowledge and service skills to work alongside a team of other retirement plan professionals with a focus on Defined Benefit and Cash Balance Plans. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in non-discrimination testing, compliance, and regulatory reporting, and a strong working knowledge of 401(k) plan administration. This person will also be a liaison between the actuarial and client service teams.

  • Assist in managing a portfolio of Defined Benefit (DB), Cash Balance (CB), and related 401(k) plans, ensuring timely and accurate service delivery.
  • Monitor annual plan projects, calendars, and milestones.
  • Perform and review contribution calculations, non-discrimination and coverage testing (e.g., 401(a)(4), 410(b), 401(a)(26), 415 limit) for DB and DC plans.
  • Conduct compliance reviews to proactively identify and help fix operational failures or plan qualification issues.
  • Manage and coordinate plan termination timelines to ensure all requirements are met to pay out benefits.
  • Coordinate with actuaries on plan valuations, funding requirements, and potential plan design changes.
  • Deliver expert guidance on plan administration and effectively communicate complex topics - particularly cross-tested and combo arrangements—to internal and external contacts.
  • Maintain knowledge regarding industry trends and legislative/regulatory requirements and changes specifically retaining to Retirement Plans. 
  • Maintain documentation on client projects and responses within JULYs CRM software tool.
  • Ad hoc projects and tasks as assigned

Our Needs…

  • 3+ Years Retirement Plan experience.  DB/CB experience is appreciated but not required.
  • Solid computer skills including MS Office suite: Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Teams 
  • Professional and concise verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills 
  • Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency
  • Collaborative rapport and team skills with stellar interpersonal and relationship management skills 
  • Exceptionally organized individual who juggles multiple projects with minimal oversight 
  • Self-starting, resourceful, solution seeker who works well independently 
  • Can do, client focused attitude who thrives on accountability, credibility, and trustworthiness 
  • Team player with willingness to do no matter how small or large the task
