Position Summary

This role supports the execution, enhancement, and governance of the Economic Balance Sheet (EBS) process for a growing (re)insurance platform. The position sits at the intersection of actuarial modeling, financial reporting, controls, and process improvement, with direct exposure to Bermuda-based actuarial teams, auditors, and regulators. The individual will contribute to quarterly and annual EBS production, analyze and explain model results, onboard new reinsurance transactions, and help strengthen the control framework around the EBS process.

Success in this role requires strong technical fundamentals, intellectual curiosity, and a hands-on mindset. The ideal candidate is early in their actuarial career, actively pursuing ASA designation, and eager to deepen their understanding of life and annuity products, actuarial models, and regulatory expectations. This is a high-visibility role for someone who takes ownership, works well under pressure, and is motivated by both individual contribution and collaboration within a high-performing team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with performing annual and quarterly EBS processes
  • Work with Bermuda actuarial team to analyze and explain model results for base and sensitivity/stress runs
  • Process improvement – building tools to streamline the EBS process.
  • Assist with the development of internal controls over the EBS process
  • Producing process and control documentation for internal and audit reference
  • Executing validation and UAT procedures on changes to EBS process
  • Onboarding new reinsurance deals into EBS process
  • Preparing documentation and support for audit and regulatory requests

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years experience in the life (re)insurance or annuity industry required
  • ASA (or equivalent) or actively working toward Associate designation
  • SOX control and compliance experience preferred
  • Strong technical and communication skills
  • Strong Excel knowledge (Power Query a plus)
  • Coding language experience a plus (Python preferred)
  • Actuarial modeling software experience a plus (MG ALFA preferred)
  • Works well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Is persistent when developing a solution to a problem
  • Balances the dichotomy between working with a high-caliber team and individual production
  • Takes ownership of their responsibilities
  • Thrives in an environment that prioritizes open and honest communication and feedback.

This is the expected annual base salary range for this Bermuda-based position. Actual salaries may vary based on factors, such as skill, experience, and qualification for the role. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, based on factors such as individual and team performance.

Base Salary Range $85,000 - $100,000

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
