Northwood is a modern space infrastructure company bringing the benefits of space to the masses through advanced communications technology. We are building a global network of phased array ground stations that enable real-time, reliable communication for satellite missions such as national security, global connectivity, and disaster response. With a vertically integrated approach, Northwood designs, builds, and rapidly deploys scalable systems that power the next generation of space missions. If you like solving complex challenges and seeing your work deployed around the world with real impact, Northwood is the place to do it.

Role:

We are seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist to own the day-to-day accounts payable process while also supporting select accounts receivable activities as Northwood continues to scale. This role is responsible for ensuring supplier invoices are processed accurately and on time, maintaining strong vendor relationships, and supporting efficient cash management.

In addition to accounts payable, you will assist with customer invoicing, payment application, collections support, cash flow management, international operations, and other finance operations as needed. You will partner closely with Procurement, Receiving, Program Management, and Finance to improve processes, strengthen internal controls, and help build a world-class finance organization. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats in a fast-paced startup environment and wants to contribute beyond traditional AP responsibilities. High-performing individuals will have opportunities to transition into additional accounting and finance roles.

Responsibilities:

  • Own end-to-end AP processing, including invoice coding, entry, three-way matching, and discrepancy resolution

  • Manage vendor relationships, including inquiries, statement reconciliations, and maintenance of vendor master data, banking details, and payment terms

  • Execute weekly payment runs across multiple methods (ACH, wire, check, credit card) with accuracy and timeliness

  • Support AR activities, including customer invoicing, payment application, and follow-up on outstanding balances to aid collections

  • Assist with month-end close, including AP accruals, account reconciliations, and ensuring financial accuracy

  • Drive process improvements and compliance by identifying automation opportunities, supporting audits, and maintaining proper documentation and controls

Basic Qualifications:

  • 1–4 years of experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, or general accounting (internship experience qualifies), with experience supporting purchase order-based invoicing and three-way matching.

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and proficiency with accounting/ERP systems (NetSuite or similar), along with advanced Excel and Google Sheets skills.

  • Highly detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication skills with an interest in financial systems, process automation, and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, with experience supporting accounts receivable, customer invoicing, or collections.

  • Experience working in manufacturing, aerospace, international, or other high-growth technology environments.

  • Proficiency with AP automation platforms (e.g., Ramp), multi-entity and multi-currency transactions, and ERP-based financial processes.

  • Strong analytical skills with experience using SQL or other data tools to support financial, supplier, and operational reporting.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position requires successfully obtaining and maintaining a Top Secret Security Clearance as a condition of employment. While the clearance may not be immediately necessary upon hire, we encourage you to initiate the application process promptly upon accepting this offer. Your ability to secure the necessary clearance is essential for fulfilling key responsibilities of the role. Should you be unable to obtain it, Northwood Space reserves the right to modify or terminate your employment to align with optional needs.

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed

  • This role requires being on-site 5 days per week

Compensation:

Compensation at Northwood Space is based on role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary depending on job-related skills, education, experience, and technical expertise. Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at Northwood. In addition to base salary, Northwood Space offers long-term incentives such as company stock options and discretionary performance bonuses. Benefits include equity, comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, flexible spending accounts, flexible time off, 10 or more paid holidays per year, retirement savings plans, and opportunities for professional development.

Additional Information:

If you need a reasonable accommodation as part of your application for employment or interviews with us, please let us know.

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
