Through a growing portfolio of iconic destinations, venues, camps, and programs across our Field Sports and Action Sports divisions—including Cooperstown All Star Village, Ripken Baseball Experiences, Unrivaled Flag, Rocker B Ranch, SNÖBAHN, and We Are Camp’s High Cascade Snowboard Camp, Windells Ski Camp, Seek Skateboard Camp, and Milepost 35 Mountain Bike Camp—we bring communities together around competition, connection, and the joy of the game.

From hosting national championships to powering hometown leagues, our work raises the standard of youth sports experiences and creates moments that athletes and families carry with them long after the season ends.

We are a fast-growing, mission-driven organization investing in people, places, and programs that put the athlete experience first. At Unrivaled Sports, you’ll join a team that values ownership, collaboration, and impact—and that believes unlocking the magic of youth sports starts with the people who are passionate about building these experiences every day.

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager will lead accounting and financial reporting for Unrivaled Sports’ Field Sports and Action Sports divisions, ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and quality of financial reporting across a multi-entity, multi-location portfolio that serves more than 600,000 athletes each year in more than 30 states.

Reporting to the VP of Accounting, this position will own the month-end close and financial reporting for its assigned divisions, including review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, cash activity, and division-level consolidated results. The Accounting Manager will also supervise and develop a team of two Senior Accountants, serve as the primary accounting partner to Field Sports and Action Sports operating leaders and FP&A, lead the divisions’ portions of our annual financial audit and tax preparation processes, and drive process improvements and acquisition integrations as Unrivaled continues to grow.

This is a full-time, primarily remote position with the option to work from our Baltimore, Maryland office for candidates in the area.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity for an accounting leader who wants to do more than manage a narrow piece of the general ledger.

As part of a growing, multi-entity organization, you’ll own the financial picture for two distinct businesses: Field Sports, spanning tournament destinations, sports parks, and baseball, softball, and flag football programming, and Action Sports, spanning indoor action sports training facilities and seasonal overnight snowboard, ski, skate, and mountain bike camps. You’ll navigate the accounting realities that come with each—highly seasonal revenue, high volumes of advance registrations and deposits, venue-heavy fixed asset bases, lodging and food and beverage operations, and partnership structures—while working closely with both finance and operational leaders. You’ll have the opportunity to lead a team, improve how work gets done, and help strengthen an accounting function that is evolving alongside a rapidly growing business.

For someone who combines strong technical accounting fundamentals with leadership, problem-solving, collaboration, and process improvement, this role offers broad scope, visibility with senior leadership, and room to make an impact.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the completeness, accuracy, and quality of accounting and financial reporting for the Field Sports and Action Sports divisions, including consolidation of division entities within the Unrivaled Sports portfolio.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop two Senior Accountants, setting priorities, reviewing work, and building a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee revenue recognition in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ASC 606 for tournament and event registrations, team and player fees, camp tuition, memberships, lodging, and food and beverage, including management of deferred revenue and customer deposits collected well in advance of each season.
  • Review monthly balance sheet reconciliations and roll-forwards prepared by the Senior Accountants, ensuring complete and accurate supporting workpapers.
  • Oversee accounting for fixed assets and capital projects across owned and leased venues—including fields, lodging, and indoor training facilities—as well as lease accounting under ASC 842.
  • Manage intercompany activity, management fees, and reporting for partner-owned or joint-venture entities within the divisions.
  • Oversee daily cash receipts across registration platforms, merchant processors, and on-site point-of-sale systems, ensuring reconciling items are investigated and resolved promptly.
  • Lead the month-end close of the general ledger for assigned divisions, including review and approval of adjusting entries under accrual accounting, against a defined close calendar.
  • Prepare and review month-end financial reporting packages, including division-level income statement variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior year—accounting for the seasonality of camp and tournament calendars—and balance sheet review.
  • Present and communicate division financial results, key drivers, and relevant findings to senior finance leadership and operating stakeholders.
  • Partner with venue, camp, and event operations teams to ensure flash reports, registration and attendance metrics, and other recurring reporting are reconciled, accurate, and delivered on time.
  • Lead division PBC deliverables and serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors and tax advisors during the annual financial audit and tax return preparation.
  • Design and maintain internal controls, close checklists, and accounting policies that scale across a multi-entity, multi-location environment, and identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
  • Partner across the Finance organization, including with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning, and provide ad hoc analysis and support to management as needed.
  • Lead accounting for acquisition integrations within Field Sports and Action Sports, including opening balance sheets, purchase accounting, and alignment of acquired businesses to Unrivaled’s chart of accounts, systems, and close processes, and contribute to other special projects and finance initiatives.

What You’ll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • 6–8 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years supervising or managing accounting staff.
  • Demonstrated experience owning a month-end close and financial reporting for a multi-entity or multi-location business.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), lease accounting (ASC 842), and fixed asset accounting, and the ability to apply accounting principles effectively in day-to-day operations.
  • Advanced analytical capabilities in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple entities, divisions, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to adapt your communication to different audiences.
  • A self-starting mindset with the ability to take ownership, lead others, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Preferred Qualifications

We’d be especially interested in candidates who also bring one or more of the following:

  • CPA designation.
  • Public accounting experience, ideally in audit.
  • Experience working in a multi-entity, private-equity-backed, high-growth, or acquisitive organization, including purchase accounting and consolidations.
  • Experience in youth or amateur sports, recreation, camps, ski or resort operations, hospitality, or event and venue businesses, particularly those with seasonal revenue and significant deferred revenue.
  • Working knowledge of Sage Intacct, Bill.com, and Concur.
  • An interest in leveraging AI and emerging tools to improve accounting workflows and efficiency.
  • A passion for youth sports, whether on the field, on the slopes, or at the skatepark.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation and Bonus eligibility
  • Health, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Life and disability insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off and robust company holiday schedule
  • A flexible, primarily remote work environment, with an in-office option for employees in the Baltimore area.
  • The opportunity to lead and shape accounting for the Field Sports and Action Sports divisions of a rapidly growing, multi-entity sports and hospitality organization.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
