The Account Executive will own MagicSchool's Gulf Coast territory, turning a strong existing foundation into meaningful revenue during a high-priority window for the state. This role sits at the intersection of strategy and execution: you'll navigate state-level dynamics and the K-12 education landscape while personally driving deals across the finish line, from stakeholder mapping through procurement. This role requires a proactive approach to tailoring our offerings, working both internally and with clients, to secure MagicSchool as the solution of choice amidst competitive pressures.

Location: This is a remote position with Alabama location preferred. We are open to candidates across any state in the territory.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for driving towards the following outcomes:

  • Territory revenue ownership: Deliver against a $1M to $1.2M annual quota by closing K-12 district partnerships across the Gulf Coast, with average deal size of $50K+.

  • Full-cycle deal execution: Own deals end-to-end, from opportunity development through procurement and close, personally driving the details that move contracts forward.

  • Strategic territory planning: Build and execute a sales plan that leverages the foundation already built to accelerate revenue within your first six months, not the typical 12 to 18 month ramp.

  • State and district relationship building: Cultivate senior relationships with superintendents, district leaders, and state-level stakeholders to shape MagicSchool's positioning

  • Expand Reach: Leverage successes in one district to facilitate conversations and sales with neighboring districts.

  • Collaborate Internally: Work with product, finance, success, marketing, and other teams to customize our offerings to meet the needs of large districts.

  • Qualifications, competencies, and skills

  • To be successful in this role, you'll bring the following skills and competencies:

  • Gulf Coast education fluency: You understand how Gulf Coast K-12 works, including DOE dynamics, legislative context, district politics, and the state's specific procurement patterns.

  • Demonstrated sales results: You have a consistent track record of quota attainment and can speak to specific deals, how you won them, and the outcomes you drove.

  • Operational ownership: You take pride in the details of moving a deal forward, from procurement navigation to final signatures, and don't rely on others to handle the friction.

  • Strategic sales thinking: You approach territory planning with rigor, sequence multi-stakeholder deals thoughtfully, and think several moves ahead inside an opportunity.

  • Competitive positioning: You know how to sell in a competitive K-12 landscape and can position effectively against other solutions.

What sets our sales team apart

  • The people who thrive on our sales team share a common set of qualities. We look for salespeople who are:

  • Hungry: Exhibit a strong work ethic, take ownership of their book, and consistently exceed expectations.

  • Execution-minded: Quick learners, curious and resourceful, with a knack for creative problem-solving.

  • Relationship-driven: Excel at building relationships, highly emotionally intelligent, communicate clearly, and project warmth.

  • Cross-functional leaders: Drive teams across product, finance, customer success, and marketing to achieve strategic goals.

  • Visionary: See the bigger picture, foster success within large accounts, and strategically allocate their time, pilots, and resources.

Experience

  • Required: 5+ years in strategic or enterprise EdTech sales, with a track record of top-seller performance and consistent quota attainment against complex K-12 or public sector deals.

  • Required: Deep connections and working knowledge of Gulf Coast's K-12 education landscape, including direct experience selling into Gulf Coast districts and established state-level relationships across DOE, district leadership, and procurement.

  • Required: Willingness to travel up to 50%.

  • Preferred: Background at education technology or productivity platform serving K-12.

  • Preferred: Prior district or state-level education leadership experience.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
