Shape your future with a dynamic internship experience at New York Life. You will build your network through collaboration and connection with talented interns and experienced employees through team-building activities, mentorship programs, and fun social events. By the end of your internship, you'll be equipped with new skills and a network that will propel you forward in your career journey.
Overview
The Technology Enablement & IT Operations Internship provides an opportunity to learn how a modern technology organization operates, supports, and continuously improves the technology a business depends on every day.
The intern will work across Technology Enablement teams to gain exposure to the people, processes, tools, and practices required to keep business technology available, reliable, secure, and effective. Rather than focusing on a single technology or role, the internship provides a broad view of IT Operations and the different career paths within the field.
The experience will also introduce the intern to how artificial intelligence, automation, and emerging agentic technologies are changing IT Operations and creating new ways to monitor, support, troubleshoot, and improve technology services.
What You'll Experience
  • Application Administration & Support: Learn how teams operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and support applications used by the business.
  • Reliability & Observability: Explore how technology teams monitor application health, availability, performance, and other operational signals to identify issues and improve reliability.
  • Incident, Problem & Change Management: See how teams respond to technology incidents, investigate root causes, coordinate recovery, manage operational risk, and safely implement change.
  • End-User Technology & Support: Understand how workplace technology, productivity platforms, and support services enable employees to work effectively.
  • Automation & Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to simplify operational work, automate repetitive activities, and improve processes using technology and data.
  • AI & Agentic Technology: Explore how AI and agentic capabilities can support areas such as monitoring, troubleshooting, knowledge management, operational analysis, automation, and decision support.
  • Technology Operations & Collaboration: Learn how technical teams, business partners, vendors, and other stakeholders work together to operate technology in a complex enterprise environment.

What You'll Work On
In addition to learning from and working alongside Technology Enablement teams, you will complete a meaningful internship project that connects multiple areas of IT Operations.
The project may involve analyzing an operational process or technology challenge, identifying opportunities for improvement, and developing a recommendation, prototype, automation, or other solution. Where appropriate, you may explore how AI or automation can improve the process.
At the end of the internship, you will have an opportunity to present your work, findings, and recommendations to Technology Enablement leaders and team members.
What You'll Learn
  • How enterprise technology moves from implementation into day-to-day operation and support
  • How teams maintain reliable and effective technology services
  • How operational data and observability help teams understand technology health and performance
  • How incidents, problems, and technology changes are managed
  • How automation and continuous improvement enhance IT Operations
  • How AI and agentic technologies are beginning to change the way technology is operated and supported
  • The range of technical and leadership career paths available within IT Operations and Technology Enablement

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
