The Opportunity

In this role you will be joining Oceanside’s Strategy Office. The Strategy Office is a small but mighty team at OCN that consists of the site’s Chief of Staff and Strategy, Communications Lead, Organizational Change Management Lead, and Program Manager of Strategy and Operations. Within this team, we enable key Network and Site initiatives as well as drive and direct strategic goals, provide key operational support, and organize internal and external activities such as Town Halls, Global Leadership visits, Conferences, etc. In this internship you will be working directly with the Program Manager of Strategy and Operations to support key initiatives and projects. Some key strategy projects include transformative digital projects that cross multiple functions and manufacturing areas.

This internship position is located in OCEANSIDE, on-site.   

This internship will focus on supporting a range of initiatives, including but not limited to:

  • Change Management: Assisting with initiatives to support organizational growth and transformation. Specific examples include contributing to Project Dolphin and OSUT (Oceanside Single Use Technology), by helping employees adapt to changes in processes, tools, and organizational priorities. The intern may assist with activities such as creating training and onboarding materials for new workflows, drafting clear and engaging communications to build awareness, organizing workshops or informational sessions, and supporting employees during the transition. Additionally, the intern will work on enhancing overall employee feedback mechanisms, such as designing and implementing surveys, analyzing responses, and identifying actionable trends to improve employee experiences.

  • Site Communications: Contributing to communication strategies and content creation, specifically as it relates to helping develop newsletter and monthly email copy, updating and tracking the communications calendar, creating event communication, ensuring eBoards remain up to date and supporting additional communication projects as needed.

  • Community and Employee Engagement: Supporting a variety of events and activities, including Genentech Gives Back, Genentech Goes to Town, Employee Holiday Giving, and more. Will liaise with other community engagement initiatives led by the DNA (Diversity Network Association) teams. The intern will assist with logistics, scheduling, communication, and execution of these events, helping to ensure they run smoothly and align with the site’s engagement goals.

  • Leadership Activities: Assisting with the planning and execution of key leadership events such as Town Halls and the Frontline Leadership Symposium. Specific responsibilities may include preparing presentation materials, coordinating logistics such as scheduling and venue setup, managing attendee communications, and collecting post-event feedback to improve future events. The intern may also support leadership in identifying key themes and topics for discussion, ensuring alignment with site priorities and employee needs.

  • Operational Projects: Providing general project support as needed, including assistance with tours, leadership meetings, and cross-functional initiatives. For example, the intern may help plan and conduct tours for external visitors, including preparing itineraries and coordinating with relevant departments. They may assist with organizing leadership meetings by preparing agendas, taking meeting notes, and following up on action items. Additionally, the intern could contribute to cross-functional initiatives by gathering data, tracking progress on deliverables, or creating visual aids such as charts and reports to support decision-making.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

Who You Are

Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must be pursuing an Associate Degree

  • Must have attained an Associate's Degree

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree

  • Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree

Required Majors: All majors welcome

Required Skills: 

  • Experience with change management projects, communications

  • Strong adaptability to shifting priorities and project needs.

  • Enthusiasm for contributing to initiatives that impact the organization and community.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Interest in learning and applying organizational change principles.

  • Familiarity with communication best practices and tools, such as intranet platforms, email campaigns, and visual content creation tools.

  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

The expected hourly rate range for this position based on the primary location for this position of Oceanside is $22- $28. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, level, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
