Serve as the frontline technical expert for Temporal’s developer community. Deploy and scale cloud-native infrastructure, troubleshoot distributed systems, optimize performance, improve reliability, and build automation and observability solutions. Work directly with developers and engineering teams on Kubernetes, networking, monitoring, and infrastructure best practices. Translate customer use cases into architecture recommendations and influence platform improvements through strong technical communication.

Lead the design and implementation of core Temporal server features across distributed systems, workflow execution, scheduling, persistence, visibility, and performance. Set technical direction, make reliability and operability improvements, partner cross-functionally, review designs and code, mentor engineers, and support open-source usability. The role requires extensive experience building production distributed systems, strong technical leadership, backend programming expertise, and operational experience with high-scale systems.

Secure Temporal’s multi-cloud platform across AWS, GCP, and Azure by embedding security into infrastructure and application architecture. Responsibilities include threat modeling, risk assessment, Kubernetes hardening, multi-tenant isolation, gRPC and mTLS security, service mesh configuration, cloud security posture management with Wiz, secrets management, encryption, compliance policy development, engineering partnership, and on-call participation. The role also contributes to responsible AI practices and security for distributed workflow systems.

Lead AI agent optimization efforts by designing systems that improve token efficiency, response time, reliability, and output quality. Build agentic coding systems, develop AI application patterns, own features end to end, collaborate with engineering and field teams, support the developer community, and create public technical documentation. Work across Python, TypeScript, Java, and Go while serving as a domain expert in agent design and optimization.

Build and shape Temporal’s developer education platform through hands-on courses, tutorials, labs, videos, AI agent examples, and reference implementations. Translate distributed-systems concepts into practical learning experiences, maintain best-practice materials, support trainer and developer certifications, and partner with Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Solutions Architecture. Gather developer feedback, create scalable enablement assets, and occasionally teach workshops or represent education at events.

Design, implement, and operate features for Temporal’s open source distributed systems server. Solve challenges involving scheduling, task processing, workflow execution, persistence, quotas, visibility, and performance. Improve reliability through testing, observability, dashboards, alerts, runbooks, and documentation. Collaborate across engineering and product teams, participate in design reviews, contribute to developer experience, and mentor junior engineers.

Lead and grow a team building shared test systems, production-like environments, workload testing capabilities, failure-mode validation, and engineering test frameworks. Drive system-level coverage, cross-team alignment, measurable improvements in pre-production confidence, and integration of validations into continuous or release pipelines. The role requires strong distributed-systems expertise, internal platform delivery experience, organizational influence, and the ability to translate production incidents into preventative test coverage.

Secure Temporal’s development pipeline, product, and customer execution environments. Partner with engineering teams on secure architecture, threat modeling, risk assessments, code and software supply-chain security, vulnerability triage, Kubernetes hardening, multi-tenant isolation, and responsible AI security. Participate in on-call rotations and help establish actionable security policies and practices across the organization.

Deliver production-ready Temporal implementations for customers and partners. Co-build workflows, establish reliable deployment and scaling practices, operate Temporal Server in cloud and self-hosted environments, and define observability, incident response, and capacity-planning standards. Create reusable runbooks, templates, documentation, and training. Own complex technical delivery issues, reduce escalations, and translate field feedback into product and engineering improvements.

Lead initiatives that enable production-like system testing across engineering. Build realistic test environments, workload generation and replay, fault-injection tooling, shared testing frameworks, and continuous or release validation. Partner with infrastructure, reliability, release, and product teams to convert incident learnings into durable test coverage. Mentor engineers, influence testing strategy, and improve observability, debuggability, and operational readiness.

Design, build, test, document, and operate core backend features for highly scalable, multi-tenant distributed services. The role focuses on concurrency, reliability, latency, scale, multi-region failover, availability, production observability, alerting, dashboards, and runbooks. Staff Engineers also contribute to enterprise on-premise and cloud offerings, improve team velocity, and provide technical leadership across backend systems.

Leads and scales a pre-sales Solutions Architecture team focused on acquiring enterprise customers for Temporal Cloud. Responsibilities include recruiting and coaching architects, establishing technical sales processes, supporting complex evaluations, guiding competitive positioning, prioritizing strategic opportunities, and partnering with sales, product, engineering, marketing, and customer success. The role requires technical credibility in distributed systems and cloud infrastructure, strong enterprise acquisition experience, exceptional discovery and communication skills, and proficiency in at least one supported programming language.

Build and operate managed compute primitives for Temporal Cloud, including autoscaling systems, cloud integrations, control-plane and data-plane services, and multi-tenant execution infrastructure. Own architecture, APIs, reliability, observability, rollout strategies, incident response, and long-term maintenance. Lead technical design, cross-team platform initiatives, code reviews, and mentorship while ensuring secure, performant, and fault-tolerant customer-facing services.

Design, build, and operate highly scalable distributed storage systems for Temporal Cloud. Responsibilities include developing persistence APIs, replication paths, caches, tiered storage, and observability; improving reliability and performance through SLO ownership, chaos testing, profiling, and incident reviews; and providing technical leadership through roadmap planning, RFCs, mentoring, and cross-team delivery.

Leads and scales Temporal’s global technical support organization for complex developer and infrastructure issues. Establishes support operations, SLAs, triage, escalation, incident response, RCA, quality, staffing, and performance systems. Develops technical talent, reduces avoidable Engineering escalations, improves customer communications, and partners cross-functionally to convert support insights into product and documentation improvements. Represents Temporal in strategic escalations, critical incidents, enterprise support discussions, and executive readouts.

Own the end-to-end Temporal Cloud Namespace product lifecycle, including provisioning, configuration, capacity management, placement, scaling, APIs, SLOs, and SLAs. Define differentiated offerings and policies balancing reliability, performance, residency, isolation, and cost. Partner with engineering, SRE, operations, and commercial teams to deliver scalable multi-tenant infrastructure capabilities and clear customer experiences.

Lead the full software development lifecycle for internal and customer-facing observability systems. Design, build, deploy, support, and optimize scalable distributed systems and high-throughput data pipelines. Own reliability, performance, testing, documentation, and production readiness; participate in on-call support. Mentor engineers, lead design reviews, investigate incidents, and collaborate with stakeholders to develop effective tooling across the Temporal ecosystem.

Design, build, deploy, and support scalable distributed observability systems for internal developers and customers.
