State Bar seeks Attorney I/II to perform litigation, investigation, legal research, drafting, and trial duties. Responsibilities include reviewing complaints, preparing pleadings, presenting at hearings, advising supervisors, and managing cases. Position requires strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy; Attorney II requires greater independence and may lead small teams or serve as lead counsel.

Manage and mentor application engineering teams; architect, develop, integrate, deploy, and support enterprise Microsoft-based solutions. Drive cloud modernization, CI/CD, system integrations, vendor management, performance, security, budgeting, and cross-team collaboration.

The Attorney III investigates and analyzes complex legal matters, conducts legal research, prepares pleadings and decisions, manages caseloads, prepares and conducts trials, advises management and panels, reviews applications for eligibility, mentors staff, and presents matters to State Bar bodies to determine grant or denial of Client Security Fund claims.

Lead quality strategy for the State Bar's software and data platforms: design test strategies, build scalable automation frameworks, integrate tests into CI/CD, validate APIs and data flows, monitor quality metrics, mentor junior engineers, and coordinate cross-functional release readiness and post-release verification.

Lead strategic vision and operational oversight for development of the California Bar Exam, FYLSX, and specialization exams. Manage exam content lifecycle, psychometric validation, quality assurance, vendor and stakeholder engagement, policy implementation, and continuous improvement to ensure fair, valid, reliable, and legally compliant licensure assessments.

Lead design and development of complex Microsoft‑stack applications and integrations. Improve CI/CD with GitHub Actions, modernize legacy systems, strengthen automated testing and monitoring, and integrate enterprise case‑management platforms (Tyler Odyssey). Collaborate with architects, product managers, QA, and infrastructure teams while mentoring staff and ensuring scalable, secure, maintainable solutions across the full stack.

Conduct compliance reviews and investigative audits of attorney trust accounts to ensure adherence to laws and professional conduct rules. Prepare and analyze working papers and reports, review external accountants' engagements, recommend corrective actions or referrals, communicate findings to licensees, and support CTAPP policy and process improvements.

Provide technical and administrative support for OCTC: maintain records and databases, perform research and data collection, prepare correspondence and reports, assist with licensing/examination processing, manage mail and supplies, support meetings and special projects, and provide coverage for other Program Specialist IIs.

Coordinate and respond to California Public Records Act requests: draft responses, identify exemptions and redactions, communicate with requestors and internal offices, gather and organize records, advise staff on CPRA obligations, research exemptions, and provide legal and administrative support (subpoena/discovery compliance, litigation support, contract management) under attorney supervision.

Provide advanced administrative support for the Testing Accommodations unit: review sensitive applicant documents, process records, maintain databases, handle phone and written inquiries, coordinate meetings and bar exam logistics (overnight travel twice yearly), prepare reports, and assist with special studies and website content.

Lead the modernization of the State Bar's data platform using Microsoft cloud technologies. Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines, enforce data governance and security/compliance, optimize datasets for Power BI, manage migrations from legacy systems, troubleshoot and tune performance, and lead cross-functional teams while documenting and transferring knowledge to ensure long-term maintainability and observability.

Lead professional performing legal and program analysis for the Office of Professional Competence. Staffs the Ethics Hotline, conducts complex legal and factual research, drafts memoranda and advisory materials, supports program administration (Lawyer Referral Service, outreach, website content), and provides lead direction and training to staff. Ensures compliance with State Bar policies and assists committees and stakeholders on ethics issues.
