Yahoo is in talks to acquire video technology company RayV in an attempt to close the gap between Google’s YouTube in the online video-streaming space, The Wall Street Journal reported today. While Yahoo has yet to comment on this news, it would come as no surprise: Yahoo has tried to acquire several web-video sites over the past year including Dailymotion and Hulu.

Founded in 2006, RayV is headquartered in Los Angeles and has already gathered over $40 million in funding. The company specializes in developing software for high-definition video streaming over the internet, but introduced a software suite in 2012 that includes digital rights management and and a content-distribution network.

The majority of RayV’s operations are in LA, but they house their research and development center in Tel Aviv.  If this move is completed, Yahoo could expand even more operations in Israel; Yahoo has previously acquired several Israeli startups including Dapper, FoxyTunes and FareChase recently.

Although the deal has yet to be confirmed or announced, RayV’s extensive knowledge of the technology behind video-streaming would help Yahoo’s current efforts to tap into the billions being poured into the online video advertising world.
