Wilshire Axon Sports, a company that makes a sports marketing software platform, has just raised a $2 million Series A fund. The round was led by Mosaik Partners, and included investments from KGC Capital and Albrekca. The capital will be used to increase sales and marketing efforts.

Wilshire Axon Sports’ product is SYNERGY, a wide-ranging cloud-based marketing tool designed to increase revenue inside and outside of sports venues. The platform has features that geo-target advertising impressions on sports apps, markets concession sales and manages marketing content. The company also has a partnership with Gimbal that allows sports teams to push information to fans as they pass beacons inside the stadium.

As a so-called “Sports CMS,” SYNERGY manages and sends pre-game information, live updates, statistics and post game recaps to fans. It can also track social media streams and integrates with a number of existing marketing platforms like Marketo and Salesforce.com.

It used to be that sports teams could communicate to their fans via broadcast television, newspapers and at games. However, an increasing number of sports teams are communicating directly with fans via new methods. Some sports teams, like the LA Dodgers, have their own television channels, most have huge followings on various social media networks and many have their own apps. Gone are the days of simple communication channels, now fans expect a much more wide-ranging flood of information, especially on mobile.

Wilshire Axon Sports’ focus on mobile marketing was a key factor in the Series A round. “We believe the sports market will continue to see a shift of brand dollars to mobile advertising. Wilshire Axon Sports is the most powerful solution in the sports industry,” said investor Chris Capps from KCG Capital in a statement.

“As an industry we’re just scratching the surface of how powerful mobile advertising and mobile driven in-venue and out-of-venue technologies can be to the sports industry,” said Wilshire Axon Sports founder and CEO Laurence Sotsky.
