January is traditionally seen as a major month for hiring, but the secret to starting the new year with a new career isn’t to be the first one on the computer New Year’s Day. It’s actually to use the downtime between trips to the mall and sips of eggnog to research companies — and perhaps even get in an early application or two.
In the spirit of preparedness, Built In is spotlighting four Los Angeles tech companies in December that are hiring now. All four focus on mobile technology, albeit in different applications. Each one offers modern perks and benefits, including paid time off to volunteer, home office stipends for remote employees and quarterly mental health days. All four have also long since left the startup phase and are successful tech companies with their sights set on scaling.
If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to make a career switch or to just find a change of scenery, then continue reading to learn more about these companies.

What Telesign does: Salesforce, Skype and Electronic Arts are just a few of the companies that use Telesign’s phone verification technology and customer engagement solutions.
The Perks
- Forty hours per year of paid volunteer time
- A pet-friendly office with free on-site parking
- A 401(k) program with a company match and available performance bonuses
Evolving benefits: Telesign sees its benefits package as a living thing, one that must evolve if it’s to continue to meet the changing needs of employees. To that end, Leslie Olivetta, director of HRBP and strategy, told Built In what new benefits she has her eye on in a recent interview.
“With the expanded use of lifestyle savings accounts, I am exploring the potential to support more employees in areas of interest, such as registration fees for a cancer awareness run or walk, consultation costs for a dietitian or nutritionist, positivity training, substance abuse care and more,” said Olivetta.
What Tapcart does: Tapcart’s no-code platform enables brands to turn their Shopify stores into mobile apps.
The Perks
- Twelve weeks of paid parental leave for both primary and secondary caregivers
- A home office stipend for remote employees
- Support for pursuing paid industry certifications
Reason to return: Tapcart has a hybrid setup, allowing its employees the freedom to choose when they prefer to work in the office. Alex Rosas-Maxemin, marketing manager, welcomed the return to the office thanks to the company’s culture.
“Tapcart’s office vibe is so positive and uplifting,” said Rosas-Maxemin. “I seriously look forward to coming in every day, not only because I consider everyone a friend, but because we’re all working together to make an awesome product even better. We constantly collaborate and support one another, which makes for an awesome company culture.”

What Emotive does: Emotive provides conversational marketing tools designed to help e-commerce companies specifically drive revenue.
THE PERKS
- A quarterly, all-company mental health day
- Generous parental leave and childcare benefits
- A 401(k) program with a 3 percent match
Engineer your career: Emotive is currently hiring for its engineering team and has openings for a QA engineer and back-end engineer. The QA engineer role requires more than four years of automation and manual QA experience as well as a strong knowledge of SQL and design patterns in test automation. The back-end engineer role asks for more than five years of engineering experience — specifically experience in developing web apps with Python — and a strong grip on relational databases and React or Vue; both roles are remote.
