Most people will probably tell you voice mail is dead. In the world of texting, why would you leave a message any other way? Even Coca-Cola headquarters ditched voice mail in December, encouraging callers to use other means to get in touch. But David Maybach, founder of Veem, disagrees with all those haters.

“We really need [voice mail]. Maybach said. “They’re memories.”

Maybach realized there was a need for his service when he went to see a friend, and he saw him holding his voice mails to a recorder to make sure he could save the messages from his family. He knew there had to be a better way to avoiding losing those messages, organize them, and make it social as well.

“It’s been really challenging because voicemail isn’t something people talk and think about every day,” Maybach said. “But the iPhone iOS hasn’t updated the voice mail feature since the first generation. It’s time for a change”

Veem will allow you to organize voice mails into different folders and automatically back them up directly from your voicemail carrier. This is due to a patented telephony algorithm that combines two exciting technologies: You can also easily trim or bleep content in your voicemails, follow other users and hear their latest shared messages.

Much of this is due to Veem’s patent pending technology, using a telephony algorithm that combines voice recognition and voip (voice over the internet protocol).

Maybach has developed Veem with co-founder Michael Collins and they have bootstrapped the company since its inception in 2012.

The company is currently running an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds to expand the technology and launch the app in 2015, and plans to embark on other fundraising this year. The app will run on a freemium model — free to download with limited use, and $2 to access all the features.
