Snap Inc. announced new augmented reality experiences created in collaboration with several public figures for its SPECS glasses. The company worked with actress and model Kaia Gerber, Golden State Warriors player Jimmy Butler, rapper and singer Jack Harlow, model and actress Hoyeon and musician Imogen Heap to develop specialized “Lenses” designed for the device.
Inspired by her Library Science book club, Gerber worked with Snap on enabling readers to save quotes, look up definitions and annotate physical books using SPECS. Meanwhile, Butler’s Dominoes Lens turns flat surfaces into a playable game area, and Hoyeon’s Meditation Garden Lens features breathing and mindfulness exercises complemented by virtual flowers.
Harlow’s partnership with Snap led to the design of a SPECS-enabled streaming experience for movies and television. The Sound Space Lens Heap helped develop converts physical movements into sounds, allowing the wearer to control spatial instruments, mixing and looping using their hands and voice.
According to the company, these interactive experiences were created to integrate digital capabilities into everyday activities. Starting October 1, Snap will offer a SPECS First Look experience at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles, allowing visitors to test the hardware. The interactive setup will update with new content through the holiday season.
