We might sound like a broken record, but LA has a new dating app on the scene — and this one gets straight to the point.
InviteUp launched in public beta last month and promises dates without all of the frustrating intro conversation. Unlike Tinder or Hinge, users post a locale and time first before being matched with a date. The app also lets you filter by age, location, or even workout regimen to make sure you are meeting up with someone that fits your utopian standards.
The idea started three years ago when co-founders Mitch and Avi Kahan were struggling to navigate the online dating world. They realized the system was unnecessarily convoluted as guys flooded girls’ inboxes while girls struggled to decide how to respond.
“Our app allows users to get directly to the point,” said Mitch. “The problem with Tinder, there’s still a lot of back and forth and only 5-10 percent will wind up as dates. With InviteUp, it gets rid of a lot of the hubbub and gets straight to the point— the date's already there and the couple knows where they’re going.”
The app will soon add in a “wingman” feature that will allow users to partner up for double dates or casual drinks. Whether the date is for two or four people, the brothers believe Los Angeles is the perfect spot to test a dating app of this caliber.
“There’s always these trendy new restaurants in LA. People love talking about where they are going since LA is a very ‘see me’ kind of town and I think that will play in to our app. Plus I think people just want to go out on dates.”
The Kahan brothers were able to bootstrap the funding for InviteUp from their family and plan on officially launching later this summer.
