SpaceX raises over $1 billion in new funding. Yes, you heard that right: billion. Although SpaceX has not announced what the new money will go toward, the funds come just in the nick of time as SpaceX ventures on a mission to create a high-speed internet network, in space, according to CNBC. Mission landed $15 million to bring more companies to the cloud. Los Angeles and Boston-based consulting firm Mission recently raised $15 million. Mission works with clients to help them adopt Amazon Web Services. This round is going toward expanding its services to Chicago and beyond. [Built In LA]

 

Mindmate’s on a mission to help curb Alzheimers and Dementia. Santa Monica-based company Mindmate raised $2.6M in funding according to a recent SEC filing. The application combines brain games, social interaction and healthy nutrition and exercise habits to help lessen the effects of cognitive decline. [LA Tech Watch]

 

Love a good podcast? Moonshots Capital leads $2.1M seed funding for Backtracks. The Marina del Rey-based venture capital firm backed the startup, which helps podcasters monetize their audiences. Moonshots Capital Managing Partner, Kelly Perdew, will join Backtrack’s board of directors as part of the deal.
