Pitches got under way yesterday as LA startups promoted the strength and viability of their companies at Silicon Beach Fest’s Demo Day. Pitches took place at Cross Campus in Santa Monica, a workspace designed for entrepreneurs to innovate and build community. Attendees listened intently to the presenting companies as CEOs made their big sell, often siting funding and venture backings.

One company that stood out was Instacanv.as, a marketplace that helps both everyday users and professional artists sell their Instagram photos. According to Matt Munson, co-founder and CEO, Instacanv.as is a direct result of modern mobile technology and people’s natural impulse to capture images on their phones. “The iPhone spawned an entire generation of creators that view themselves as photographers and artists.” Instacanv.as simply helps these users and artists turn that art into a marketable product where previously the gatekeepers of sellable photography seemed to be in the hands of only a precious few.

Munson added, “We wanted to build a learning driven platform,” in the hopes of teaching people how to monetize their product and start their own businesses, much like Etsy did with homemade crafts and antiques.

Instacanv.as is growing. In 12 months, the company has gone from zero to 200,000 photos without spending any money on marketing. They’re also hiring, although you could just sell your breathtaking Instagram photos in the Instacanv.as marketplace and make a buck or two there.
