In this fast paced world every employee is under pressure to perform. Staying long hours at office has had its effects on families. Although Gen Y still works enthusiastically under pressure, it can never equal the intelligence or experience of Gen X. However, employees that fall under the Gen X category is more concerned about work-life balance rather than money. With the introduction of enterprise mobile apps and BYOD, it is possible for employees to work from anywhere, anytime.

Especially in organizations that require collaboration and access to vital information to complete projects BYOD can be very useful. The comfort level of employees differs greatly and what may be convenient for one person need not be convenient for others. However, when it comes to company provided devices, every employee must put up with the devices. Utilizing mobile devices provided by the company can only add stress to the employees. For instance, companies find it easy to provide laptops instead of desktop computers just to cut costs. Laptops are cheaper and have battery backup for three hours. Whereas, they would have to provide uninterrupted power supply if they provide desktop computers. The company also will have to provide large space per person if they provide desktop computers. While laptops may be convenient for a few, those that are involved in coding or writing work might find using laptops cumbersome.

This is exactly what happens with mobile devices. While a few may find it easy to work on iPhone or iPad, others may be comfortable working on Android phones and tablets. In the case of BYOD, the employees can choose a device with which they are comfortable. Since it is their own, they will take good care of the device and maintain it well. Stress free jobs often produce better results than working under pressure. Letting employees work in they own style and convenience will certainly enhance productivity and quality.

The company on the other hand can greatly reduce the initial investments on mobile devices. Simply deploying a well secured mobile app and mobile device management software will enable the organization to closely monitor its employees. Of course the benefits of implementing BYOD are many and yet BYOD is not without its downsides. Loss of device or BYOD employee quitting the job could put the organization at risk. Businesses implementing BYOD should also carefully draft the agreement in order to avoid legal issues when the employee quits the organization.
