Data is invaluable in today’s digital world, and keeping it safe against mishaps like file corruption or system hackers is more crucial than ever. Texas company Jungle Disk built a solution that works to help businesses ensure their information is properly stowed away. With its new acquisition of LA-based ElephantDrive, it’s extending the same service to individuals and families.

Jungle Disk operates a suite of data security tools for backup and cloud storage, password management and security awareness training. The platform, alongside ElephantDrive, was developed using Amazon S3, a scalable storage service that uses the same infrastructure as Amazon and operates through a web service interface. The solution enabled Jungle Disk’s customers to access enterprise-level cloud tech without needing to be an expert software developer, according to the company.

Launched in 2006, ElephantDrive specializes in the long-term storage of photos, videos and documents on the cloud. Providing network-attached storage and consumer storage solutions, its tools allow users to automatically backup their data as well as sync and share files between devices. By joining Jungle Disk, ElephantDrive’s solution will extend the company’s suite of cloud backup offerings into this new sector that targets individuals and families.

“We launched ElephantDrive 16 years ago with the goal of making cloud backup easier and more accessible, building tight integrations along the way that enabled us to protect all devices in homes and businesses around the world,” ElephantDrive CEO Michael Fisher, said in a statement. “We’re proud to join the Jungle Disk family and excited to scale the business further to ensure that no family suffers the digital disaster of losing their treasured memories.”

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. ElephantDrive will operate as an independent business unit following the merger. As part of the deal, Jungle Disk’s chief revenue officer Nick Nelson will take on the role of chairman and CRO of ElephantDrive.

“With both brands pioneering the cloud backup industry over the past 16 years, today launches an exciting new chapter for ElephantDrive as we begin leveraging our scale and experience for the benefit of consumers by preserving their lifetime of memories,” Jungle Disk CEO Bret Piatt, said in a statement.

The ElephantDrive acquisition is the most recent in a series for Jungle Disk as it builds out a portfolio of data backup and recovery companies. Over the course of 2021, Jungle Disk acquired KeepItSafe, LiveVault and OffsiteDatasync.
