HR platform EduMe announced Tuesday that it raised $20 million in a Series B round led by Prosus. The company will use the fresh financing to step up its investments in product innovation and development.

EduMe’s mobile-based training platform caters to the needs of deskless workers. The company’s suite of training tools can cover a wide range of onboarding tasks in addition to workforce safety and compliance.

“The deskless worker is mobile and needs access to easily consumed, bite-sized knowledge on-demand in the flow of work,” Jacob Waern, founder and CEO of EduMe, said in an email to Built In. “We accomplish this by delivering a seamless experience to access training that is relevant to the job they are performing regardless of time or location.”

The pandemic has brought all these needs to the surface for many employers in particular. It has also led to a substantial increase in demand for EduMe’s training platform, and a year of tremendous growth. Nearly 80 percent of today’s global workforce is deskless, according to the company.

“The pandemic has brought increased awareness and urgency to the importance of deskless workers in our society — from delivery drivers to retail and hospitality staff and healthcare workers and so on — and their need to have easy access to knowledge on the go,” Waern said.

EduMe’s training platform is used by companies in more than 60 countries around the world. The company’s varied list of clients includes delivery giants like Uber Eats, Gopuff and Deliveroo.

“What we’re seeing is that this group is vastly underserved and isn’t given the tools for onboarding and training to succeed in their roles,” Waern continued. “EduMe offers these workers the tools and technology to do just that, as part of their on-demand workflow.”

The London-based company is now hiring for five open tech positions at its U.S. headquarters in Santa Monica. Available roles span the company’s sales, marketing and people teams.
