A cup of coffee in the morning can be one of life’s most simple pleasures. It can be a tough choice between today’s options for a caffeinated beverage you can brew at home. That’s why LA-based Copper Cow Coffee is broadening the reach of its Vietnamese coffee kits following its $8.5 million Series A round.

The company offers sustainably-made pour-over Vietnamese coffees, teas and creamers. The single-use latte kits come in a wide range of flavors with hot or iced options and can be purchased in packs or bundles.

Currently, Copper Cow’s products are available online and at more than 3,000 retailers across the country including Whole Foods Market, Sprouts and Walmart. The company’s Series A, co-led by investors Cultivian Sandbox and Arborview Capital, enables Copper cow to further innovate its products and expand its distribution.

“A new generation of coffee drinkers is seeking an innovative experience and flavor profile, all-natural ingredients, and the convenience of café quality anywhere,” Carolyn Farley of Arborview Capital said in a statement. “Arborview is thrilled to support the growth of Copper Cow Coffee as it offers all this with ethically sourced ingredients and a reduced environmental footprint.”

Copper Cow was created when CEO and founder Debbie Wei Mullin searched for a way to combine her love of Vietnamese coffee and culture with her background in sustainability. The company practices organic agricultural and processing methods on its farms, such as growing several crops simultaneously, using organic matter compost and avoiding the use of pesticides.

“We are thrilled to invest in our innovation to continue to 'wow' our customers and support our sustainable coffee partners in Vietnam,” Mullin said in a statement. “We are excited that our investors and newly formed all-female board are just as dedicated to our eco-friendly mission as we are.”

Copper Cow Coffee is part of the 2 percent of women-owned startups to have raised venture capital, according to the company. More investors this round include Siddhi Capital, Silverton Partners, Social Starts, Montage Ventures, CRCM and Stormbreaker Ventures.
