5 local tech events we're checking out this week

A hearty thank you to all of those who made it out to the Built In Brews hosted by ConsumerTrack! Like last week, LA Tech is busy once again. Here are five events happening around town this week we're keeping on our radar. 

Getting Started in Data Science, June 27 at 6:30 p.m.

This Tuesday, the Cross Campus in DTLA is hosting an event that will detail what it takes to be a data scientist, which Glassdoor recently named as the best job in America. An experienced scientist will be on hand to detail what it is he does on a day-to-day basis.

DTLA Tech Networking Mixer At The Association in Downtown by knw media, June 28 at 6:30 p.m.

Head right on back to DTLA this Wednesday night for a few mid-week drinks and networking, hosted by knw media. The event organizers suggest you bring startup swag to the event, as there are frequent pop-ins by established cos. like Snap, Hulu, Tinder and Tastemade, among many others.

"Ask Me Anything" with Citi FinTech's Former SVP, June 28 at 6:30 p.m.

The Product School in Santa Monica is hosting an in-person AMA with Eric Rems, former senior vice president at Citi FinTeech, and the founder of the recently-launched The Mindful Tech Lab. A veteran of the NYC tech scene, Rems brings his decade-plus product experience to the City of Los Angeles.

Artificial Intelligence in AR/VR, June 28 at 7:30 p.m.

Facebook recently announced an augmented reality platform at the F8 developer's conference, and professionals in the AR/VR industry are buzzing. Head down to the GumGum headquarters in Santa Monica to witness a panel of experts discuss the state of AR/VR and what role artificial intelligence will play moving forward.

Build the Future Part II: CINEMA 360, June 29 at 5 p.m.

Speaking of interactive technologies, check out a performance of Diavolo: Architecture in Motion, followed by a crash course in 360-degree filmmaking from LA-based Radiant Images. There will also be a panel discussing cross-disciplinary collaboration and its potential to power a new way of storytelling.
