Signal Sciences secures $15M Series B and reveals big product news

Signal Sciences, a web security startup headquartered in Venice, announced this morning the company had secured Series B funding worth $15 million. The company also announced the launch of its Web Protection Platform (WPP), which provides comprehensive threat protection for web applications on any platform.

Led by CRV, a Palo Alto-based venture capital fund, the influx of capital will allow the startup to scale aggressively to meet growing customer demand.

"Applications are being created and modified faster than they can be protected. Signal Sciences has created the first, and most efficient, defensive approach to security that I've seen in the market," Murat Bicer, general partner at CRV, said in a statement. "In tripling both their revenue — and Fortune 500 customer count — over the last year, the company is becoming a clear leader in the web protection market. There is a growing enterprise community in Southern California, and Signal Sciences is one of the most promising companies to look out for."

As companies all over the world develop web apps to accelerate business, security issues can slow the pace at which businesses can scale. Signal Sciences has partnered with companies like Under Armour, Etsy and WeWork to install the platform, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

"We couldn't afford to let security become a bottleneck for our digital business operations," JJ Agha, director of information security for WeWork, said in a statement. "With Signal Sciences' WPP, we can empower our development and operations teams to protect our applications far more effectively, while maintaining the speed and agility demanded by today's customers."
