Design and lead enterprise WordPress architectures (multisite, themes, plugins) on WP VIP. Ensure performance, caching, security, integrations (REST/GraphQL), DevOps pipelines, monitoring, documentation, and mentor development teams.
Core WordPress Expertise
- Deep knowledge of WordPress core architecture (hooks, filters, REST API, database schema).
- Multisite setup & management – domain mapping, shared users, centralized vs. brand-specific themes.
- Theme & Plugin architecture – ability to build enterprise-grade custom themes/plugins that comply with WP VIP coding standards.
- Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) / Gutenberg – designing flexible, scalable content models.
WP VIP Hosting Knowledge
- Familiarity with WordPress VIP platform (VIP Go, VIP CLI, and CI/CD pipelines).
- Code review and performance standards – strong grasp of WordPress Coding Standards (PHPCS), linting, and VIP Go requirements.
- Caching strategies – page/object caching, Advanced Post Cache, Redis, and VIP’s built-in caching layers.
Security compliance – secure coding practices, restricted plugins, data handling, GDPR compliance.
Performance & Scalability
- Large-scale traffic handling – query optimization, scaling multisite databases, use of transient/APIs.
- Front-end performance – asset concatenation/minification, lazy loading, Core Web Vitals optimization.
CDN/Edge delivery – integration with Cloudflare or VIP’s edge caching for global sites.
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Solution architecture design – multisite brand hierarchy, shared vs. isolated codebases, content modeling, headless CMS hierarchy.
- Integration expertise – REST APIs, GraphQL, headless/decoupled options, external CRMs/marketing tools.
- DevOps awareness – Docker, Lando, WSL, GitHub/GitLab workflows, CI/CD pipelines for VIP.
- Monitoring & observability – New Relic, Logstash, VIP logs, debugging performance bottlenecks.
Collaboration & Best Practices
- Agile project collaboration – Jira, Confluence, Git workflows (PRs, code reviews).
- Documentation – technical architecture docs, coding guidelines, onboarding resources.
- Mentoring developers – setting coding standards, ensuring compliance with VIP review processes.
Compensation, Benefits and Duration
Minimum Compensation: USD 56,000
Maximum Compensation: USD 196,000
Compensation is based on actual experience and qualifications of the candidate. The above is a reasonable and a good faith estimate for the role.
