WEBTOON Entertainment is a leading global entertainment company and home to some of the world's largest storytelling platforms. As the global leader and pioneer of the mobile webcomic format, WEBTOON Entertainment has transformed comics and visual storytelling for fans and creators.

With its CANVAS UGC platform empowering anyone to become a creator, and a growing roster of superstar WEBTOON Originals creators and series, WEBTOON Entertainment’s passionate fandoms are the new face of pop culture. WEBTOON Entertainment adaptations are available on Netflix, Prime Video, Crunchyroll, and other screens around the world, and the company’s content partners include Discord, HYBE and DC Comics, among many others.

This leader will safeguard the trust and integrity of our platform by ensuring both brand standards are in place, enabling creators and audiences to engage with confidence.

The ideal candidate combines expertise in content policy with deep experience in brand safety; able to set global guidelines, lead risk response, and foster a safe environment where storytelling can thrive.

This is not a traditional IT platform compliance role. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of storytelling, entertainment media, and cultural nuance. You will be tasked with creating flexible, context-aware policies that protect our platform without stifling the creativity that makes WEBTOON special.

Essential Duties:

  • Establish and refine content guidelines and age-rating frameworks for the English-language service.
  • Define standards for sensitive categories (e.g., violence, sensationalism, mature themes) in line with the applicable laws across jurisdictions, cultural expectations, and global best practices.
  • Continuously research and analyze industry best practices, emerging regulations, and cultural trends to ensure our policies remain relevant and effective.
  • Oversee the content review process to ensure new uploads meet policy standards before publication.
  • Lead the team responsible for reviewing original or localized content balancing compliance and creative freedom.
  • Deliver training and clear guidance to ensure policies are applied consistently and fairly across teams.
  • Lead decision-making and escalation on sensitive or controversial content cases.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Legal, Product, and Content) to address risks without undermining creative or reader experience, and represent the company in responding to inquiries or challenges from external bodies such as regulators, industry associations, or advocacy groups.
  • Lead and develop a team of brand safety specialists, fostering a culture of thoughtful and consistent decision-making.
  • Drive alignment on policy by clearly communicating decisions and rationale through documentation, training, and regular updates to stakeholders, while serving as a point of contact for external organizations raising concerns about our content guidelines.
  • Manage a team of brand safety specialists conducting content review and escalation.
  • Work in close alignment with global counterparts, particularly in our Korean office, to ensure our regional policies are consistent with our global brand standards while being locally relevant.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7–12 years of experience in the content, publishing, or entertainment industry (comics, streaming platforms, film/TV, gaming, or digital media).
  • Proven experience in policy-making and implementation at a major comic book publisher or platform.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. regulations and ability to apply frameworks globally.
  • Ability to work from and travel to the Los Angeles office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership experience spanning both Content Policy and Brand Safety.
  • Korean language proficiency (business level or above) and strong understanding of Korean content and cultural context.
  • Reputation for exercising balanced judgment in complex or sensitive safety situations.

What we offer:

  • Career development; we believe in mentorship and investing in your learning, supporting you to achieve your goals
  • Health benefits, including vision and dental!
  • Generous PTO and Parental Leave Top-up
  • 401K Contributions
  • Commuter Benefits
  • Global WEBTOON and LINE FRIENDS discount program
  • Winter break shutdown and a whole lot more!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
