Your Opportunity
 As the Regional Wastewater Sector Leader for the Pacific Region water business line, you will be an integral part of the water leadership team operating in California and Hawai’i. You will work closely with our regional leadership team as well as our North America wastewater team in advancing a growing Wastewater Practice. As a Sector Leader and as seller-doers, we are expected to be able to lead and build a team, develop clients, manage large projects and contribute technically in our area of expertise. This position will directly report to the Regional Business Leader for Pacific and is part of the North America Wastewater Sector global community of practice.

 Your Key Responsibilities
 The following outlines key performance aspects and responsibilities that we anticipate with your role. These responsibilities and expectations are organized according to the four pillars of our business: winning work, doing work, managing our business and staff, and innovating. 
 

WIN – Business Development
 

  • Grow Stantec’s multi-disciplinary wastewater business in the Pacific Region and beyond, with the support of the North America Leader and Pacific Water sales team (Regional Growth Leader and Northern/Southern California Business Center Practice Leaders).
     
  • Responsible for business development for a geographic area as a client advocate and/or functional expert.
     
  • Manage key client relationships and target key clients and pursuits including large wastewater programs with a focus on California and Hawai’i.
     
  • Identify important industry trends and develop strategies at the regional level to keep Stantec at the forefront of the market.
     
  • Lead and support the business in decision making such as overall strategic direction, goal setting, identifying clients, market challenges and opportunities.
     
  • Drive growth of sector by identifying strategic clients and projects and support pursuits and capture iconic projects. 
     
  • Engage our clients in meaningful discussions about their most critical issues and translate those discussions into opportunities to deliver solutions.
     
  • Prepare and maintain successful client account management plans that reflect the above.
     
  • Enhance Stantec’s brand presence and reputation in the industry through national professional associations/committees (such as CWEA, CASA WEFTEC, etc). Actively participate by seeking officer roles within professional organizations and technical committees. 
     

DO – Project Work
 

  • Be responsive to client needs in your role as a senior project manager, principal-in-charge, and/or client service lead for projects in your client portfolio.
     
  • Apply your knowledge of, and experience in California infrastructure planning, design, and construction to principles and practices for wastewater engineering.
     
  • Track performance of projects, from client and Stantec perspectives. This includes cost, schedule, and quality performance requirements.
     
  • Support and mentor others within the group and help build Stantec’s growing wastewater team.
     
  • Provide project leadership for on-going wastewater related projects.
     
  • Remain current on regulatory policy and rule changes and establish working relationships with regulatory officials.
     
  • Coordinate with Stantec leadership and client contacts routinely to explore future opportunities, budget planning, and staff resourcing needs.
     
  • Ability to conduct effective communication with clients and staff.
     

MANAGE – Project Work
 

  • Mentor and coach developing professionals to guide their career development objectives.
     
  • Recruit and retain top WW talent across the region.
     
  • Help further develop and grow a team of high performers who deliver successful projects to our clients through on-the job training, exposure to different levels of responsibility, interaction with clients and stakeholders, and guidance on their participation in professional organizations and events.
     
  • Effectively lead, challenge, and inspire staff to work together by being a visible leader of our wastewater practice and being accessible to staff. 
     

INNOVATE – Technical Growth and Innovation
 

  • Collaborate with Stantec’s Office of Growth/Innovation to support global knowledge sharing groups that foster and grow innovative ideas to address wastewater challenges.
     
  • Collaborate with our innovation and research teams to develop innovative solutions that provide a significant carbon reduction in our design processes.
     
  • Develop and deploy innovative solutions to address regulatory drivers, aging infrastructure, cost efficiency and other market drivers.
     
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in science, planning, engineering or related field. Master’s Degree in related field preferred.
  • Professional engineering license in the State of California, preferred.
  • Minimum twenty (20) years’ experience in the field of wastewater and biosolids treatment engineering, including supervisory, management and fiscal responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with California wastewater market and projects is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working in diverse team environments with staff, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license. 

Typical office environment working with computers and sitting at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
