Description

We’re Freebird — a high-growth, category-defining DTC-native and now omni-channel brand that’s scaling fast, expanding globally, into retail, and building a world-class team to match. After growing to 9-figures in revenue, we’re now laying the groundwork to double again over the next 12–24 months. That means building smarter systems, scalable processes, and a leadership team that thrives in controlled chaos.

We’ve been scrappy by design — but now we’re entering our next chapter. We’re looking for an experienced, execution-obsessed operator to take the reins and help us scale with intention.

The Role

We’re hiring a VP of Strategic Operations to work closely with the CEO and COO to translate strategy into execution and build the infrastructure to scale. You’ll own the cross-functional programs that make the business run — from international expansion to team-wide project management, operational SOPs, and everything in between.

This is not a behind-the-scenes role. You’ll work directly with every department head (Marketing, Product, Ops, Finance, Creative, and more) and be a trusted partner to senior leadership. Your job is to build systems, create clarity, reduce chaos, and keep the most important things moving forward.

What You'll Own🗂 Cross-Functional Project Leadership
  • Project manage key company initiatives like international expansion, production line scaling, and subscription compliance
  • Build and manage a system for creative asset production across departments
  • Launch and lead our centralized SOP creation and maintenance process
🎯 Strategic Planning & Execution
  • Operationalize company strategy into Asana with clear owners, deadlines, and accountability
  • Roll out strategic plans across teams and ensure they’re updated, communicated, and executed
  • Build a repeatable system for quarterly and annual planning
🔁 Process, Systems & Infrastructure
  • Build org-wide processes for hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and compensation adjustments
  • Launch our internal employee handbook, offshore PTO system, and onboarding flows
  • Create the infrastructure that enables us to double without doubling chaos
👥 Leadership Enablement & Alignment
  • Prepare directors for leadership meetings, launch structured team stand-ups, and run our weekly Ops meeting
  • Support new VP/Director onboarding (Amazon, Ecom, Customer Service, etc.)
  • Help team leaders stay focused by owning follow-up and project accountability
📊 Reporting & Accountability
  • Build weekly/monthly team reporting systems for department leads and managers
  • Implement board-level reporting and establish our executive meeting cadence
  • Capture and distribute insights from Growth and Ops calls across the org
📆 IRL Planning & Events
  • Plan and run in-person strategy sessions and 180-day rolling leadership offsites
  • Coordinate pre-work, agendas, breakout sessions, and day-of execution
Requirements
  • 7–12+ years of experience in BizOps, Strategic Ops, or Chief of Staff roles
  • Experience scaling a DTC or eCommerce company from ~$50M to $100M+
  • Operator mindset with founder-like ownership and strong execution instincts
  • Proficiency in project management tools like Asana (you’ll be the system owner)
  • Strong communication and cross-functional leadership skills
  • Obsessed with documentation, systems, SOPs, and making chaos calm
  • Equally comfortable in the weeds and at 10,000 feet
Benefits
  • The opportunity to be a key driver of growth at a company scaling fast and doing big things
  • A high-ownership role with room to innovate, experiment, and lead
  • Smart, motivated teammates who value speed, transparency, and results
  • Competitive comp + performance bonus
  • Executive growth path — Built to scale into a COO-level role
  • Medical, dental & vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Founder access
  • No politics, just execution
  • Make your mark

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
