You’ll lead engineering strategy, build and scale high-performing teams, and partner cross-functionally to drive product innovation and technical excellence. This is a critical leadership position for a seasoned builder who thrives in dynamic environments and knows how to align engineering with business outcomes.

In this role, you'll manage a team of ~8 software engineers, lead projects, write high-quality code, and contribute to the overall design and architecture of our tech stack.

You should be passionate about building world-class products and exceptional user experiences. You love clean, organized, and elegant code, and enjoy collaborating with fellow engineers to solve complex problems using modern technologies.

Qualifications

10+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ in senior leadership roles, ideally at a SaaS or vSaaS company
Proven experience scaling engineering organizations during high-growth phases (ideally Series A to C)
Strong track record of building and managing distributed teams.
Demonstrated ability to align engineering and product roadmaps and deliver high-impact results.

  • Drive automation-first approaches for infrastructure management (Infrastructure as Code - Terraform, Pulumi, etc.).
  • Make decisions on containerization, orchestration (Kubernetes), and serverless strategies.
  • Create multiple environments for testing, staging, development, post production, and production, with the ability to spin up new environments in an automated fashion.

Reliability, Performance & Monitoring

  • Define and track SLAs, SLOs, and SLIs to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Oversee observability, logging, and monitoring.
  • Implement disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity strategies.
  • Optimize cloud and network performance to reduce latency and improve efficiency.

Security, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure infrastructure security aligns with SOC2, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA, or other industry standards.
  • Implement zero-trust security models, access controls, and encryption policies.
  • Drive best practices in secrets management, IAM, and secure CI/CD pipelines.

Leadership

  • Foster a high-performing engineering culture by mentoring, coaching, and developing engineering leaders and ICs.
  • Define technical vision and strategy in alignment with company goals, ensuring long-term scalability and innovation.
  • Champion cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, and Business teams to drive alignment and execution.
  • Advocate for engineering best practices, including code quality, security, and maintainability.
  • Attract, hire, and retain top engineering talent while ensuring a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Project Management & Estimation

  • Oversee the engineering execution lifecycle, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.
  • Implement structured estimation techniques, to help engineers determine with greater certainty the scope of each project.
  • Drive a culture of accountability for eng teams to follow, allowing them to take ownership of their projects and tasks.
  • Identify timeline risks early and implement mitigation strategies to avoid scope creep and delivery delays.
  • Improve cross-team communication by ensuring transparency in priorities, timelines, and dependencies.

Testing Plans for Better Reliability & Reduction of Errors

  • Define and enforce quality assurance processes, including automated testing, integration testing, and performance testing.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines to ensure faster, reliable, and error-free deployments.
  • Encourage a test-driven development (TDD) and behavior-driven development (BDD) culture to catch issues early.
  • Monitor production reliability through observability tools, incident management processes, and post-mortem analyses.
  • Drive continuous improvement in system resilience by enforcing SLAs, SLOs, and best practices for high availability.

Latest Technology

  • Stay ahead of industry trends by researching and evaluating emerging technologies that could benefit the company.
  • Drive the adoption of modern frameworks, architectures, and tools to enhance scalability, performance, and developer productivity.
  • Ensure the engineering team leverages cloud-native solutions, microservices, and serverless architectures where appropriate.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning by organizing tech talks, hackathons, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Establish technical proof-of-concepts (PoCs) and pilot programs to assess new technologies before full-scale adoption.
  • Collaborate with engineering leaders to modernize legacy systems and minimize technical debt without disrupting business operations.
  • Advocate for AI/ML, automation, and DevOps best practices to optimize engineering efficiency and decision-making.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
