About Moon

Moon is an ambitious, independent vertical SaaS company incubated by Home Organizers, a market leader with decades of proven success in home organization through its subsidiaries, including Closet World, Closets by Design, and Brio Water Technology. Born inside one of the industry's largest operators — 6,000+ employees, hundreds of thousands of new customers served annually — Moon is built on a rare advantage: we build for the home improvement industry from within it.

Our mission is to reinvent the home improvement experience end to end. From AI-driven marketing and in-home 3D design to sales, service, and operations, Moon unifies the entire customer and business journey on a single platform — supercharged by Luna, our proprietary AI engine. Where most operators stitch together disconnected tools that don't understand the homeowner, we're building the unified operating system the industry has never had. We're a rapidly growing team of committed builders, driven to reimagine how this industry sells, designs, and delivers — and to power the next generation of operators, from single-location dealers to national franchise networks.

Role Overview

As VP of People you will build a well-oiled, technology-first people operation across two companies. Hiring and recruiting that actually delivers, onboarding that runs like a product, performance management with real metrics, and systems — Rippling at the center — configured properly for goal tracking and management. You will be exceptional at technology utilization and at creating the processes that let a company scale without drowning in them.

About the role

You will join with an aggressive hiring year in front of you and two recruiters plus a People Ops Manager reporting to you. The company runs on an operating model with team-level metrics and bonuses — your systems are what make those goals trackable and those reviews fair.

What you'll do

Build the recruiting engine: pipelines, interview loops, employer brand, and the recruiters who run them - hiring effectively is the company's rate limiter this year.

Own onboarding end to end with structured 15/30/45-day checkpoints for every hire, run consistently and measured.

Advise and coach managers on performance management; install the metrics and evaluation systems that make it objective.

Set up Rippling properly for goal tracking, performance cycles, and people data across both companies.

Own training and skill evaluation company-wide: role-based skill matrices, evaluation frameworks, and the training programs that close the gaps.

Own the people side of SOC 2 and ISO 27001: security awareness training, background checks, onboarding/offboarding access controls, and HR policy evidence - audit-ready ahead of certification.

Own the people-risk and liability framework: employment agreements, policies, investigation standards, and manager training - designed with counsel, executed through your People Ops Manager.

Build people processes that scale: comp cycles, compliance (California first), engagement, and retention.

Qualifications

8+ years in people/HR leadership at scaling technology companies.

Deep hands-on Rippling (or equivalent HRIS) implementation experience - you configure systems, not just buy them.

Has built recruiting engines that delivered 20+ technical hires in a year.

Data-driven performance management experience; systems-first instincts.

Experience supporting SOC 2 / ISO 27001 audits on people controls a strong plus.

Comfortable operating across two companies at extreme pace.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
